Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere - Cooling Fan?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have #180/250 of the Ampeg SVT-II Pro Premiere (the hand assembled precursor to the current SVT-2 Pro).

My cooling fan is starting to make noise and allowing the unit to heat more than it should.

Any suggestions for a specific cool fan replacement? I looked at Mouser Electronics (Mouser Electronics - Electronic Component Distributor) but I don't know what volt/amp to get... (I CAN get the physical size from the existing fan, but it's solid black, no writing/tags of any kind).

Any/all info is appreciated...

Thanks,

Patric

Usually there is writing on one side or the other. If not check the sides of the fan body. I would look for one same V /I range and size but higher CFM if possible . Also look for a bearingless or magnetic bearing fan. They last a lot longer ( bearings are what usually go) and the newer blade designs flow more CFM. Look at digikey, I prefer their search filters over mousers. Sunnon makes good fans and we use them a lot 100k$ + test equipment.

Thanks, I'll get the old fan completely out and wipe it down and look for some markings for sure. I like the digikey site, lots of stuff! Thanks again for the info, greatly appreciated!

Cool, yeah we use them for parts all the time. Digikey, mouser, and Newark in one, are the big 3. There may be a voltage labled where the connector plugs in also. The current draw of the fan is important too though, too low and the fan turns too slow. Might have to look up a schematic if you can't find it on the fan.

My 2 Pro always seemed too hot. As the heat would rise during a song I could feel the dynamics of the amp change. So I put two small 120volt (130mah) fans on the back screen. One pushing air in, one pulling air out. I am no electronics master so I just ran the wires in the bottom of the chassis and tapped into the on/off switch. Amp was cool to the touch after 4 hour bar gig. Used to feel like a pizza oven.

Good luck, Play hard.
