Ampeg SVT III PRO - how to test?

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,

I was given a Ampeg SVT III PRO amplifier that is mounted in a very nice enclosed travel rack/case. From my research it is an earlier USA made version and I have no idea if it works. I'm not a musician, but have lots of audio test equipment.

What typically goes wrong with these? Anything I can do to quickly check it out beyond just sticking a load on it and running a signal generator into it?

Thanks ahead of time...

the most common problems are the tubes going and the mosfet bias needing reset.

the best way to check it out is plug it into a cab, plug a bass into it and start playing.

I guess I didn't make it clear. I don't have a bass guitar (or any guitar) or a bass speaker cabinet. I have some random woofers and speakers around though...

But I will test the tubes and do some other bench testing.
