Ampeg SVT15E Classic vs. TC Electronics RS410

I'm thinking about replacing my Ampeg SVT15E with a TC Electronics RS410. The Ampeg is rated at 200 watts, the TC seems to be rated at 600. Does that mean the TC will really be able to generate a lot more sound? Tone is important but I really want to be able to keep up with an 8 piece reggae band so I just want a lot of volume too. I think I will be using a TC RH450 with either one. I'm mostly playing reggae, R&B and rock with this rig. Any thoughts?

The rs410 is supposed to be quite pillowy in the low end. That would be great for reggae. Maybe.

I would just get another 115e if I were you. They are great cabs, and two of them will kick hard with that amp

TC Cabs are excellent IMO.... If you like the tone.

I'm thinking about using RS 410 with an RS210. I figure that gets me roughly 3 quarters of the way to the Ampeg 8x10 I love using at festivals. Is that bad logic?

If both cabs are the same impedance, then yes bad logic because you are feeding 2X the amount of power to the speakers in the 2X10 then you are the speakers in the 4X10.

When mixing a 4X10 and a 2X10, the 2X10 needs to be twice the impedance of the 4X10 (ie: 4 ohm 4X10 + 8 ohm 2X10, 8 ohm 4X10 + 16 ohm 2X10, etc).

The tc cab has the same issue as any 8 ohm 410 cab(like my ampeg 410 HE). People look at power rating for their amp at 4 ohms instead of 8. Then complain they don't like the sound of the cab when they are really giving it around half the power they thought they were. If I go from my 4 ohm 810 to my 8 ohm 410 the tone and volume (per speaker) is very simalar. An ampeg 410HE is cheaper new than an rs410 btw.

I used 2 15 cabs a long time ago. I just think volume compared to size they don't compare to ampeg cabs loaded with 10s. The ampeg 15 has a completely different speaker design then the famous ampeg classic cabs with 10s. The 15 is a cast basket and the 10s in the classic line are stamped baskets. Stamped baskets flex and IMO sound really good cranked. Cast baskets don't really flex so they are good to make a 15 or 18 sound tighter but the negative is that IMO bass guitar cabs with cast speakers sound really bad at high volume.

The difference between running a cab at 8 ohms versus the same exact cab at 4 ohms is almost negligable.

Even if you did double your wattage output from your amp (which you don't), it would be a gain of +3 db at best.

Speaker baskets don't flex

If they did, it would throw the cone, former, and coil out of alignment, and kill the speaker.
