3 or 4 easier carries

If I was gonna use 4, I think I'd rather a single 810
Still, wish there were some/one 210AV here for me 2 try.

Two questions:

1. Does anyone happen to know if the 210AV cab is made of plywood, or particle board?

2. What is the difference (other than appearance) between the 210AV cab and the cab that comes with this rig:

The CL handles half the power and weighs more. Must be different speakers in it. And I think the CL only comes as a complete rig, you can't buy the cab only.
If you like the black front, get an AV and some black grill cloth...

Ampeg SVT210CL Cabinet
Power handling: 100 watts RMS at 8 ohms
LF drivers: 2 x 10 in.
Frequency response: 57 Hz - 5 kHz
Dimensions (HxWxD): 13 x 24 x 11 inches
Weight: 33.2 lbs

Ampeg SVT210AV Cabinet
Power Handling: 200 Watts at 8 ohms
LF Driver: 2 x 10" Eminence Speakers
Frequency Response (-3dB): 58Hz-5kHz
Dimensions (W x H x D): 13 x 24 x 11"
Weight: 25.9 lbs

Thanks BBQV.

I probably didn't word my questions correctly. I was more interested in any differences in quality of cab construction.

not sure about differences between the two, but check out page 16 of this thread for a nice breakdown of the 210av.

I'm pretty sure they use a less stout speaker in the Micro CL cab since the power handling is lower than the 210av.

Update on my 4 x 210av rig. Sounds great with either my SVT CL or my Peavey Mark IV. Has more bottom end with the Mark IV it seems. More balanced tone. I will try it out with the Tech 21 VT tomorrow to see how that pairs. If it really works well I may sell my SVT CL

More musical tone for solo playing than my svt 810. I can dial in a decent 810 tone as well. I really like that the 4 cabs run my Mark IV at 2 ohms; it gets the most out of that head.

The 810 is still an 810 and sounds great, though. In the mix, its hard to beat an 810 for heavy music.

Has anyone played a Hiwatt or other non-Ampeg tube amp though a 210av? I own a Weber Mywatt 200, a German DR201 clone, which I usually combine with an Ampeg 610 HLF. I expect the 210 to have less low end in comparison what might not be an issue since the Mywatt already has lots of low frequencies to offer.

I just wondered how this cab would pair with my amp as a small setup for studio or gigs with low stage volume? Thanks for your thoughts!

ok I have 2 210av's on the way and I plan on using an Aggie TH350. The two things I think I will need to get to NLBT (NEXT LEVEL BASS TONE) ahaha are:

1. compression- I am currently using a Boss LMB-3 limiter/enhancer (I never enhance cause it sounds like an 80s alien possession)

2. Tube - I am using a Art tube studio mp (with a 12ax7 Ruby tube) with the selectable filters ( I usually end up back on "valve")

What pedal can take care of both of these needs that can get me from two pedals with their own power supplies down to one.

EBS Valve looks cool but is crazy expensive.
I used to own a VT bass pedal which was cool but If I am trying to get a tube sound, I want a dang tube.

Does anyone who gigs the 210av's use a pedal and does it pair well?

BTW im using a RW p bass with flats and a pick

I have a 2x210 stack powered by a PF350. I have been using an EBS MultiComp on the Tube Sim setting. Sounds great, and very tube-ish.

J!

I use a VT with my 210av setup. Sounds tuby enough for me but I dont look for that warm round tone, I like a more aggressive slightly high gain tone.

The girls are here and clean and mean. Sounds so good I am reminded of playing my 1996 eden wt-300 through my mesa powerhouse 6x10! Good times are here again! I sold that rig (that helped me get an engagement ring fellas!) and am finally back to decent gear again. I have got to get me a compression pedal because I am going to explode these cabs from pure joy. I've got a rock n roll gig Saturday night that is gonna be baller!

I've read this entire thread and I'm pretty well sold. Currently, I have a Retrospec Squeeze Box into a PF500 with either a Mesa Road Ready 215 (good mids, but way too heavy), an SWR Henry the 8X8, (way too much bass and too heavy), and my favorite cabs, 2 GK RBS410 (too heavy, but they're parked at my weekend house gig so I'll leave 'em there...)

The RBS410 cabs are made of basically particle board (yuk!), with carpet covering (double yuk!), and plastic corners (3x yuk!), BUT to my ears, they sound great due to the fact that each 10" is in it's own sealed box and there's no tweeter. Very tight, with nice definition, IMHO... Put a PF500 on top and let 'em eat!

My question is this: How do you think 2 of the SVT210AVs would stack up to one RBS410? Most the bands I play with are loud (within reason). That being said, all but one of the clubs have really nice house PA systems.

I like the idea of vertical stacking the cabs to get closer to ear level, and my PF500 should match up fairly well.

One other thing to consider... I owned a pair of PF-210HE cabs and I didn't care for them. Too bass heavy and not well defined mids to my ears. I spent a great deal of time EQing to no avail (sad... I really love the way they look!)

So what do you TBers think? Will I be satisfied with a pair of SVT210AVs? I truly appreciate any and all opinions!

Mannish, that is an excellent question, and one I'll answer with "I don't know." Both seem to be medium duty cabs, and it's been a long time since I played a rig with the RBS410 and didn't crank it, but I would guess that output capability would be somewhat similar. But I can tell you that if you thought the 210he had too much low end and not enough mid content, you will love the 210av's. Plus the 210av's are made of plywood and not boogerwood.

Thanks, JimmyM!

Lovin' the no boogerwood (and the "no rat fur", and real metal corners, and real grill cloth)...

Anybody else want to chime in, please do. The more opinions, the better! If not, it's settled... I'm buying a pair!
