Hi folks,
I would like to buy a new 2x10 cab to pair with my Markbass LM3 head.
I love the Ampeg sound and this cabs seems to be a great deal.
But which one? It's mostly for home practice or very small gig.
The sound is different between this two cabs? I search a warm tone with good clarity/grind (a la Ampeg of course!) in the mids.
I play with Fender PJs and L2000.
Thanks! |

I don't really like true vintage sound, i play my P with stainess steel (FatBeams, my favourites) and i'm into Rock/Funk (low end thump lover with clear hi-mids), don't really like crystal/modern highs. |

For my needs i think the SVT will be better, lightweight and smaller |

The 210av is tuned to have a higher tuned low end more similar to an 810e and is more upper mid forward. The PF210 is tuned lower and has a tweeter, but otherwise sounds more like the early B-15 cabs.
But maybe you're right...like I said, I do love those 210av's. But I also love the PF cabs and have two PF115's as well You'll just have to watch your volume with the LMII driving it, but it should work out well for your needs.

I will play this rig 90% of the time at home, so power isn't really important to me.
The SVT seems to have more midrange with good low end thump? It's perfect! |

| | | | SVT The SVT has a presence about it that just sounds like a bass should. I’m a rocker though and play mostly with a pick. There’s plenty of bass but also articulation without racket. Not for everybody. There’s a live video on YouTube of Montrose playing Bad Motor Scooter on some English TV show, that bass players tone is what I got with the VR/SVT combination. I got GAS. |

I prefer its tone to that of the PF210, not to mention TWO of them is about the weight of one PF210. I found that the PF115 was the stronger cab in the PF series (IMO) and that, as mentioned above, the AV is voiced much like 810e, which is tried and true in most all genres, especially rock! I ran my Shuttle 3.0 through one AV, and it was really kicking. Two of them would cover basically every gig I do!
If you look in the thread about the 210AV, you'll find that the LM2/3 pushing 2 AVs seems to be popular. I would only lean to the PF if you're really looking for bigger lows than that of the AV, which are surprisingly big with a bit of a bass boost.

I am currently the owner of a SVT210AV which I'm using with a GK MB500 for practice at home, and I throw the GK in my Go Bag as a backup to my SVT-VR for gigs. Also, I have the AV to play my SVT-VR through at home when I want to at lower volume, and for recording without having to drag my 810AV with me...
The AV can deffinitely do the growly/grindy Ampeg thing, but does suprisingly well at the ultra clean and articulate modern bass thing, too!
The AV is cheaper, and MUCH lighter and sounds great.
The PF sounds a bit bigger and louder, can handle more power, and you can store your amp inside it.
To me it would come down to this: Do you play gigs where you're right on the edge where the AV just might not be cutting it and you'd need that little bit extra volume and 'umph' that the PF might give you? Do you need to squeeze that extra bit of low end out of the cab? Other than that, it's just about which looks cooler to you...
