Ampeg svt215e tweeter or mid-range?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, recently I installed legend cb 15s in my svt215, They seem to sound arlight not as much bass or clarity as the original speakers (They died if you're wondering). Maybe the ports need to be readjusted due to the new xmax? I don't know. But The specs of the originals and these after markets seem very similar. But my question is as following. I want to install a crossover with a some sort of HF driver, I've read that a midrange is the way to go. But space is pretty limited. So what would be best? crossover and drivers wise. I really don't want it to sound to tackety tack if you know what I mean. Just want it to handle frequencies smoothly.

Also What should the power rating be of the HF drivers each speaker is 300 wats rms and they see 200 each (seymour duncan bass 400, pushes A LOT of power). Just don't want to MURDER the drivers, or will the crossover kill most of the power going to them and send it to the 15"?

if space is limited, i'd consider installing a compression driver instead of a piezo. i'm not a fan of either, but i'm way more a fan of compression drivers than single piezos. the mid IS the way to go, but it needs a separate compartment and at least 7 inches of room on the front. no idea how to do it, though.

+1 or a li'l 6" mid/hi driver a'la the Berg NV215 these seem to saound great & not 'twinky' like tweeters etc.. Handle OD very well & allow enough top end spank for slap etc..
