| The cap didn't likely have much to do with it.
Fan on, and amp off for a while means a heat problem. The main filter cap connection to that is fairly remote.....not totally *impossible*, but not the first place to look.
The heat problem can be real, OR it can be a failure of the over-heat detecting circuit.
it could even be a DC problem, either real or due to a problem with the detection circuit. Typically that doesn't put the fan on high, but.....
