Ampeg SVT410HLF vs Orange OBC410

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I'm new to all this so I thought I start with my dilemma!

My cabinet has just about to give up so it is in desperate need of replacing!

The two cabinets in mind in the running are the Orange OBC410 and the Ampeg SVT410HLF.

My head at the moment is a Line 6 HD750 (which will more than likely be replaced with the matching head in the future) and my bass's are an Ibanez BTB676 six string and a P bass.

So I just wanted to know what people think of the tone, over all sound, has anyone play a 6 string (tuned to BEADGC) through either of them?

Will be good to hear from some of you!

Thanks

the Ampeg is great for a 5er, it goes down to 28Htz, so id guess it would handle a 6 quite nicely.

As far as experience I highly recommend the Ampeg 410HLF! Your tone is as good as the cab, so why not start with the BIS (best in slot) IMHO.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply!
My next question what's it like with higher notes? I tend to play a few leads breaks when the mood takes me too :-) and tend to play more with my fingers too!

Both are "good" cabs, but which would be better will depend on 2 things, the amp you choose, and your ears. Both are full range cabs, and will reproduce the full frequency range of a bass guitar- to greater/lesser extents in certain regions. This is impossible to put to words, thus, your ears play a huge part in the decision.

That's very true, at the moment I have a line 6 hd750, which Is a modelling amp, but in time I'd probably get the matching head to the cab, so with the orange it'd be the AD 200 B which is the all valve and with Ampeg it would be the SVT CL again all valve. I think I was a bit blinded by digital effects when I bough the line 6 rather than concentrating on a good basic sound to start from, the line 6 is ok at creating a sound but you can never get close to the real thing.

Agreed. The Line 6 is good for experimenting with a lot of different sounds to see which ones you might like, but there's no sub for the real thing.

I won't answer your question because I'm biased but I feel the Ampeg is the better choice
