I'm looking to buy a new amp. Should I get an Ampeg or a TC Electronic? I've also been looking at some from EBS. What is your experiences, and would you recommend something else? |

| | | | I have never played through a TC Electronic but I have an Ampeg. I don't think that you could go too wrong with then Ampeg. |

The "would your recommend something else" will result in quite a few people telling you to buy a GK and others telling you to buy something else.
That's all you're gonna find out with a question like this. |

(My money went for a PF-500)

| | | | Try different brands and see which one you like the best. I would not buy any brand without playing them first. |

Some taste indicators would help us. However, you can't go wrong with Ampeg for rock, rockabilly, or Motown. Good, old-fashioned warm grit with Ampeg. Genz-Benz is about the cleanest amp I've ever used, really doesn't color your instrument at all, and will work with any style. I've never used GK, but hear good things about them.

Out of these two I definitely would go for the Ampeg. The TC just did not feel right when playing it. The sound seemed a bit detached from my fingers, and the sound of the Ampeg just suited me better.
Furthermore, it was a lot easier to dial in the sound I wanted on the Ampeg. The TC simply had too many (hidden) features for a simpleton like me.
Never really tried an EBS, apart from one of their huge tube thingies (which sounded really nice, but was way out of my budget). |

| | | | Overall what people reply the Ampeg suits me better. I went to try them both out and it just met my needs so much more than the TC. I also tried the EBS just to be sure and the sound is just a bit too "clean" for my taste. I love the rock sound the Ampeg gives.
Thanks to all of you for your help!! It really helped a lot!! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
