Ampeg V4B into 2 Ampeg SVT-210AV Micros?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am likely to score a mid 70's V4B very soon and I am looking for suitable cabs. I read her that it likes big efficient cabs, but I have no way to transport a big cab right now. So I was thinking could I send my bass signal to both channels at once and and each one power a Ampeg SVT-210AV Micro? Do you guys think this would sound any good and get enough volume to gig with a funk sextet?

don't think that will work. I used my v4b with 2 -15 altecs and with my svt cab. sounded great with both. don't know what a 210av micro is.. Is that 2 10 inch speakers?? 8 ohms??? if so then just hook them up in series and you will get a 4 ohm load out of the head. should sound very nice?

Yes they are 8 ohms. You would be hooking them up in parallel which would give you a 4 ohm load.

I used my V4 with a variety of cabs, including a 4x10 and had enough volume for my gigging situation, but can't necessarily guarantee that you would. But, I hear those 2x10 micro cabs are pretty bitchin', so it might sound pretty good.

You could split your bass signal into both preamp channels if you prefer the sound that way, but these would just be blended together (like a mixer) into the amps single channel/mono power amp. The V4B has a pair of speaker output jacks, but they're just wired together inside the amp.

If you ran a pair of any 8 ohm cabs, you'd just need to set the amps ohm selector switch to the 4 ohm position and then you could either daisy-chain the cabs, or connect each to the amp with its own speaker cable. Both these methods would be making the same parallel speaker connections.

I'm guessing a V4B pairing into those 2 cabs would sound pretty good and possibly be loud enough to keep up with a medium-loud band. (boost your amps mid knob and cut the bass a bit if you find you need more volume)

I play my old V4 through a NV610, Its been plenty loud for some of my bands that play at sane volume levels, but its also been way underpowered for some of the louder bands I've played with where I needed my SVT.

I think it would sound pretty sweet! The 210AV is a pretty inefficient cab, but with two of them, i think you could get enough volume. My only thought is that you MAY have to crank the v4b to get enough power through...so you may not have a "perfectly clean" tone. Someone with more amplifier and speaker knowledge may know better than I. It depends on how loud your band is too. I would be surprised if you were seriously displeased with the result though; that setup should get some sweet vintage tone!

Yeah vintage tone is what I am hoping.
My band has a PA and I go direct in from a Tube DI so I get nice support from that volume wise. I like to have my "volume" a bit more spread around the stage than cranked right into my ear.

Good vintage sound.
Good mid-range punch.
Lacks deep low-end.
Stacked vertically works great - V4 might look funny on top of vertical stack (small cabs).
Handles are tall - had to add felt pads to the amp feet to keep them off the handles.
