Amps That can Run 2.6 ohms?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking to run a 4 ohm cab and an 8 ohm cab together. Besides the SWR 750 does anyone know of another head that can handle 2.6 ohms?

You have to bear in mind that the 8ohm cab will recieve half the power of the 4 ohm one. That is cool if you are running an 4ohm 4x10 and a 8ohm 2x10 for a 6x10 effect, but you can run into trouble if they are mismatched and one is cruising and drowning out the other struggling.

Most Peavey heads run down to 2 ohm.

Pretty much all Peaveys prior to the tour series, Genz Benz GBE series and the Neopak, Carvin anything, there are lots of two ohm heads. If you'll search, I think someone around here even compiled a list of them.

If you're worried about heads not being ok with exactly 2.6ohms, any two ohm head will work.

Mesa Boogie Carbine M9 and M6 and SWR 350, 550, 750 can all handle 2 ohm loads (obviously including 2.67).

They are one channel amps. Having a two channel power amp where EACH channel can handle 2 ohms gives you the capability of balancing the power sent to each cabinet by using the attenuators on each channel.

Most QSC and all Crest CA series can handle 2 ohms loads on each channel. There are plenty of other power amps that can do it. AFAIK, there are no tube amps that handle 2 ohm loads. If there are, I am certain someone will correct me.

Doing it now with a Peavey Mark III, a Hartke 4x10xl (8 ohms) and a Community 2x15 sub (4 ohms).

Most of the heavy hitter tube amps have 2 ohm taps- SVT, SVT Classic, Mesa 400+, and Sunn Bass 300. Some do not have 8 ohm capability however.

I use an Ampeg Portabass 800 it can handle 2 ohms. It can also handle 2 signals at a time. Get some dirty/clean action going.

Thanks for the info about tubes and 2 ohm loads. I guess my "anti-tube bias" just got the better of me, LOL.

IMHO, if you want to mix cabs, it is hard to beat a two channel CA6 or CA9, but hey, get a super beatle and rule your world.

I didn't think anybody would catch that, and here i was, feeling so clever.

Rule their world with circa 1966 120w +/- of transistorized American Organ company power.

Also, the Ampeg V4 can do 2 ohms.

Carvin's lineup can get down with 2 ohms: http://www.carvinguitars.com/bassamps/bassheads.php

I have the BX500 and I love it.

As said, any amp that will go down to 2ohm.

On a related note - I have a GBE750 for sale here. I bought it for that exact reason.

Ampeg SVT does two ohms, and pretty much every Peavey ever made will do two ohms.
