AMPS WITH MINIMAL HISS??

Sign in to disble this ad
Planning on upgrading to a more $$$ combo amp in the 200-300 watt range. Any recommendations for amps that have minimal hiss, even with the tweeter on?? Do any exist at all? Thanks.

It starts with the pickups on your bass...

All gain stages produce noise. The better the amp the more is invested in better components to reduce that noise. In general combo amps are a host of compromises and one of those compromises tends to be its noise level.

+1 what Paul said. However if you are willing to pay the big bucks there is Glockenklang

Glockenklang COMBO amps

Alternatively, you can also mod your amps by replacing it's opamps (if it has any) with lower noise modern equivalents. I replaced the TL072s in my Thunderfunk with TLE2072s and that cut down the noise considerably.

Hi!

Gallien Krueger produce the most quiet amps I have ever played through.
Even with my bass highly compressed (sometimes), there is so little hiss, I forget
that my amp is even turned on.
Try out a GK - you won't be dissapointed.

All the best,
JOHN.
