What brand of bass amps, is the most commonly seen as backline in Big stages that aren't rock music?
Even if this is totally subjective, maybe this can help to see if bassist of Pop, Gospel, Funk, Jazz, reggae etc.. prefer to go for certain brands!

I love the EBS Fafner for it's power and flexibility and used it for my backline when I could take it with me. Big backline is becomng more for show now with the advances in PA subs, arrays, etc. and recording DIs like the Avalon U5 and A-Designs REDDI along with modelng software like Ampeg SVX / StompIO is increasingly being used in live situations. The new ultra compact backline.

Morris Day & The Time's bassist had dual SVT's and dual 8x10's! I also see a lot of Eden rigs and an occasional SWR rig. Can't say I've seen any Hartkes.

On the other hand, the sound companies providing the backlines are there to make a profit. They probably purchased these same amps 10 or more years ago and have not updated them (cuts into their profit) except by necessity. I take my Shuttle with me when I play outdoor festivals. The soundmen have zero problems unplugging from one amp into another - takes about ten seconds. I don't care what kind/brand/size speaker cabs they provide, because the audience won't hear that anyway. |

I mean, e.g. if a guitar player plays pop, i bet he would prefer the clean sound of a Vox AC30 instead of Marshal JCM say..
But I think you should be in a Pro band so you can have that standard of requirement..

I think the most popular has to be an IEM system.Almost required in any genre any more these days. |

1) Ampeg SVT
2) Aguilar
Last weekend I had a smile on my face because the bass player was toting a Mesa MPulse 600 and Powerhouse 6x10, which is the rig I'm probably going for. Got the head already but still deciding on cabinets....
