I have been told that amps will producce a clearer sound when mounted on a tripod. Is that true? Thanks & take care. Bob

No doubt, but you lose that lovely earth shaking floor coupling.

No thanks.

It will be clearer to you as the sound is not aiming at your ankles, but at your head instead, but as for the crowd at a gig i do not know

Hi.

It'll be the "true" sound of the cab that You'll hear, much closer to what the audience hears. Whether that's to Your likin' or not, that's an another matter alltogether .

An another + side of elevating an instrument cab is that if there's a PA, the stage volume will be more manageable and the bleed to the other mics will be reduced.

When ever I play in a small place, an elevated SWR WM10 is our monitor while the PA beefens up the lower register.

Regards
Sam

As Liam said, by elevating the amp you can hear its full tone clearly. Most cabinets beam the mids and highs quite a bit (moreso with bigger drivers), so you don't hear those frequencies when standing above the cab.

I usually elevate the RS112 cab on a milk crate to get it a bit closer to my ears. You have to elevate several feet before the cab no longer couples with the floor.
