Another amp recommendation thread...

So, some of you may have read my thread about the really nice '75 Precision I scored recently. Now I need an amp. (I have a Crate BX40 that just won't cut it.) I am a guitar player who also dabbles in banjo and ukulele, and my musical tastes are all over the board. Fortunately for me I have a buddy I jam with who has an old school SVT rig w/ an 810 cab, as does my brother, so I can use those whenever I go hang out with either of them.

I guess I'm looking for something that is somewhat versatile but geared toward a more country/alt-country sound, since the SVT's can easily cover the harder stuff. However, if I came across a nice SVT for the right price, I'd jump on it. Call me crazy, but I'm even considering putting on some flats on this bass as well...

My total budget for head and cab is $1500.

Any amp can be used in any genre, it's just playing style. And, buying an amp is alot like buying shoes. You want to try them on, and see how it feels. Yours is the only opinion that counts. Go forth, and play some bass amps.

It's hard to beat an SVT and 810 for classic tube tone, especially for the styles you mentioned. If you look around you'll be able to score a used one within your budget. That being said there are plenty of other choices as well - how much power/volume do you need?
