Another Annoying Ohm/Cabinet Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have the GK MB210 Combo amp and I'm wondering what Ohm rating of extension cabinet I need.
The info says full power at 8 Ohms, so will I need a 4 Ohm cabinet?
Anyway, just need a short answer on the Ohm rating of the extension cab I will need.
Thanks!!

Here's the GK link for info:

The info says:

350W @ 8 ohms/500W @ 4 ohms
(with extension)

So, you need another 8ohm cab

You need an 8ohm extension cabinet. A 4ohm cab would result in a 2.7 ohm draw. Which the head in that combo cannot do.

You need an 8 Ohm cabinet to provide a total impedance of 4 Ohms (the minimum allowed by the head).

Edit: wow, all that happened while I was typing!

The MB210 is at 350 Watts @ 8ohms with the eternal speaker, so you can add another 8ohm cab to bring your total down to 4ohms...

I disagree. I think that it can do 2.7 ohms just fine. You just need to check the various gauges of wire and the size of the transformer, apply the "I squared R" law, put on some safety glasses, and play some Black Sabbath and see how accurate your calculations were about what measure in "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" the amp would explode.

Then buy another MB210 and get an 8ohm extension.
