Hey,
So im in a band that is beginning to play slightly larger venues, and is beginning to think about touring. Right now im using a LMII on top of a bergantino HT 112 ER, and a Warwick Streamer Stage II.
Since the clubs were playing in are getting a little larger (400 capacity) id like to get a different amp that can be a bit louder. Id also like to switch out the head for something with tubes. Its a hip hop thing, and the markbass head works great, but the tube sound is just a different kind of thing and id like to try it. I really liked the sound of the USA made ampeg SVT- VRs.
Ive also got an ampeg 610 HLF fridge cab, but i didnt like the sound as much as with the bergantino. I feel like at a louder volume, the ampeg sort of spreads out whereas the berg retains a punchy sound that cuts through everything.
What would be my best option, in your opinion-
1) get the bergantino Ex 112 ER to go with the HT i already have, and use the 2x12s with the ampeg head
2)use the 610
3) get something else. Any recommendations?
Thanks |

| | | | id also like to keep portability in mind. Were not doing well enough to hire people or anything like that, so id have to cart the 610 around city streets, etc. Id be nice to have the 2x12s for that reason.
I guess what i mean to ask is, what would the difference in sound be between running an SVT head through a 6x10 cab and running it through 2x12s? |

You'll get a much bigger sound than with the two 112s and to me, the Ampeg 610 is one of the worst sounding big cabs on the market. The Berg NV series blows it away in every sense... |

this...
As a former owner of the NV610 and NV215 they just kill. Why I ever got rid of them I'll never know.
An NV610 with an SVT would handle any situation. The 610 is also not bad to move at all, pretty lightweight (for a 610). |

Thanks | get a second HT112ER. With the tweeter. They're easier to sell when you want to (and WHO would want to do that?), and you can turn it off, yielding an EX112ER sound. And in the case of all cabs, but the Berg cabs especially, 1+1=2.5 at least. Or that new 212 ultralight thingy sounds like it's probably pretty good.
If your back can take it, or if you've got roadies, any of the NV cabs with an Ampig SVT is really nice as well; certainly better than those AWFUL cabs Ampeg has been putting out for the past 10 years or so...I've heard the new ones are better again, but why risk it. NONE of them are as good as the Bergs...ask Cripula. He's got a ROOMFULL of old SVT's, original cabs, and a BUNCH of Berg NV cabs.
And a VERY sore back...
Cheers,
Cameron

I can't recommend the NV cabs highly enough with an SVT. They are just the best.
If I were you I'd ditch the ampeg 610, and watch the classifieds like a hawk. A second HT or EX112ER with your LMII will cover a lot of ground and will help a LOT.
Then grab the first NV cab you can find. I love the 610 and the 215, never played through the 412, but have no doubt I would love it too.
The 610 is hard to beat with an SVT though, and would be my choice if I could only have one.
Those 2 rigs would cover almost any gig. |

| | | | don't forget the AE410, quite portable for a 410, about 20lbs more than one HT112ER......and sounds great........
all considered, its a hard cab to beat IMHO........
you should try with the LM or head of choice though.........
either way, you just can't go wrong with a Berg.........quality stuff period....
not the cheapest, but the best isn't going to be..... |

| | | | what do you guys think of the HT112 er AE 112 pairing with the LMII? how different will it sound than the Ex 112 er? |

Sounded great, but I'd go for matched cabs, and blow the wad and get the second tweeter.
And Cripula's rigs sound really really good. If I only had an intact spinal column...
Cheers,
Cameron
