another "choosing a 10" driver" thread

I've been doing a lot of searching and reading in the last 24 hrs (though not consecutively) about 10" drivers. It seems that the poular favorite is either the Eminence Deltalite 2510 or Basslite S2010. So I've been looking around on the Eminence site and noticed the Delta 10A.

Looking at the Spec graphs of the Delta 10A and Deltalite 2510, the two speakers seem to be incredibly similar. Throughout all my searching, I haven't seen anyone looking into using the Delta 10A...any particular reason? Is it because of the tradidtional magnet and weight and the fact that everyone and their mother wants a NEO speaker for weight savings as their main buying point? Or is it because it's just a speaker design that's a bit "long in the tooth"? Could the fact that it's been around for ages mean something regarding it's performance?

I have a pair of Goliath II cabs, a 4x10 and 2x10. The 4x10 I bought for a song because it was toasted, all 4 PAS drivers are blown. I wanted a 4-ohm cab and wound up loading it with the not-so-loved BP102-4 speakers. I find that they sound pretty good in this cab with thunderous low end. The reduction in mids isn't too much of an issue since I use a Graphic EQ and can dial in what seems to be lost. I like how it sounds.

The 2x10 is in need of drivers as well, and am looking into either of the 3 above mentioned drivers. I don't want to go with a recone of the originals or a new OEM, because they just can't handle what newer amps can dish out. The 2x10 is originally rated at 250 watts or so (125 each driver), and I can hear them distorting at moderate volumes...I play hard.

I like that the Delta 10A is rated at 350 watts, which would bring the cab up to a 700 watt rating. I have read a lot of BFM's suggestions and took note that a speaker's limitation isn't necessarily wattage rating, so much as it's excursion limit. I want to be able to use this cab by itself driven by my BX500 (500watts @4 ohms) or in conjunction wit the 4x10 with my SVT 2-pro.

So I guess the questin is, Why wouldn't you choose the Delta 10A?

I don't mind using a traditional [heavy] magnet.

Model both in WinISD Alpha Pro, compare the SPL and Maximum SPL charts. The Delta 10 works fine in its intended application, in a very small cab above 100Hz along with a subwoofer to handle the low end. For standalone use it doesn't go as low or loud as either the S2010 or DLII 2510.
