Another G-K question...

Sign in to disble this ad
OK... how are these switches used? I use the speakeron output from my RB1001 into my 410SBX cabinet. How should I set the bi-amp switch? And the rotary knob? Should I have it set to bi-amp when using the 410 which has a built-in horn? If I run a second cabinet (thinking of getting a 410RBH) should I use the regular speaker jack and set the bi-amp switch where?!? ANY info appreciated.

As always, thanks gang!

Only use the full range setting if you are using a head other than GK or if you are using 1/4" speaker cables, or speakon cables not directly from GK.If you get an rbh cabinet you can use the other speakon output on the head and run it into the speakon on the cabinet. As for the dial move it around and see where you like it best.I have been using GK stuff for ten years now and they make some quality stuff.Good luck and if you have any question pm me and i will help you out as much as i can.

Brad

Ok, wait--what? I have GK MB500 and I sure as heck am using full range setting on my Neo 212. Perhaps what you mean is "Only use the full range setting if you are not using a biampable GK head."

More specific a G-K HMS amp head (800RB and 2000RB are true Bi-amp).

Some GK amps (such as 1001 RBII) have an internal 2nd amp for the tweeter. They call this the Horn management system.

With this amp, using a **SPECIAL** speakon cable plugged into this cab would let you select "bi-amp" and then control the cab's tweeter volume with the tweeter knob on the amp. The amp has an internal electronic crossover at 5kHz. Boost-knob-added dirt would not be sent to the tweeter.

If you dont use the special speakon cable, or if you select full range, then the crossover inside the speaker cab splits off the high frequencies to the tweeter, and you cannot control their volume separately. In addition, whatever grunge is supplied by the boost knob on the amp would get sent to the tweeter, where it will sound more harsh.

The speakon cable is not that special. It is a standard four-wire speakon cable (1+ to 1+ etc). You can buy them ready-made from most places dealing with pro audio.

^ yes. The 1+, 1- is for the "woofers" and 2+, 2- goes to the horn.
