Another ohm question. Getting old yet?

Ok. So I'm running a Hartke LH1000 into a 4ohm Ampeg 410HLF. This head has the bridge option (1 speakon connector, and bridge switch), with 4 - 1/4inch inputs. I'm guessing 500 watts at 4ohms on both sides. Like an idiot I cant find my paperwork for it.

The question. Since this head can't handle 2ohms (2 - 4ohm cabs) running through the bridge, will it handle 2 - 4ohm cabs if each are taking a line from the separate 1/4 inch jacks? (2 - 500 watt inputs at 4ohms). I believe I remember it saying this head can handle this. Because each 1/4 inch jack runs independent to each 4ohm cab. Will it need to be switched to un-bridged so each can get their own line? Or remain ON bridge? I think I remember it saying that the extension 4ohm would have to be at least 500-600 watts to avoid destroying a speaker. I guess balance is key to the addition in this situation. (My Ampeg 410HLF handles the head just fine on its own)

I'd like to add either another 4ohm 410HLF or SVT115, but I love my head, and I don't feel like getting another. (ie Ampeg SVT-CL for $1,700 )

Thanks!

From the manual:
Dual Parallel Mode: 2 x 225 watts @ 8 ohms,
2 x 320 watts @ 4 ohms,
2 x 545 watts @ 2 ohms

Bridge Mode: 1 x 750 watts @ 8 ohms,
1 x 1100 watts @ 4 ohms

Adding another 4 Ohm cab is fine, but you must NOT use bridge mode. Bridge mode is for 4 Ohm and higher loads. Two 4 Ohm cabs will present a 2 Ohm load.

Haha, sorry about that. After I posted I realize it was long, and I too, hate long posts. But I believe I got my answer above.

Since my Ampeg 410 is a 4ohm, can I run (in the appropriate way) an 8ohm extension? I have the opportunity to grab an SVT115 cheap off Craigslist. Or do both cabs need to be 4ohm?

It's ok to run an 8 and a 4 ohm cab together. The 8 ohm cab will pull about half the power of the 4. I'm not necessarily recommending this... there has been a lot written here about that combination. Some like it, some say it's a bad match. If they were the same impedance, it would be worse, since the 15 would run out of gas before the 410.

But to answer your question - your amp will be ok with that combination (non-bridged).

The 410 will get more power than the 115 due to the ohm difference. Which might be desirable.... I would try to run the full setup with both cabs if you can before buying.

Get a slave amp to run the 2nd cabinet. Run a line out from your amp into the line in on the slave amp. That is how bands will run big stacks of 4x12 cabs for one instrument.
