Hey ya'll, long time lurker, infrequent poster. Was hoping ya'll could drop some knowledge on me regarding a Peavey 215 I got stupid cheap. It looks like this
Most of the Peavey 215 threads have been about the 215D or BW, this cab doesn't appear to be either (the tag says 215 Enclosure).
Obviously, I need speakers, but I don't want to drop a ton of money on a cab that will be used infrequently at best. (My main cab is another old Peavey 1x15 with a 3015LF in it). Rough internal dimensions for each side are 24W x 11.5 D x 19 Tall (Including port) so~3.035 CU Ft? Port is horizontal, runs full width of box, both ports run to center front of the cab. I was thinking the American Standard series from Eminence may be good, but I'm open to arguments otherwise. Would like to end up with a 4 ohm cab that can cover most trad styles but also bring the thunder for rawk. Thanks!!

Why do you need to get speakers, out of interest? Whats wrong with the ones that are in it?

I need new speakers because I got it empty for $20. It's physically sound, and I DO have the original grille (Black w/ aluminum edges)

It is fairly warm sounding, if you want a lot of uppermid twang or grind it won't give you that without some eq boosting but it's a good driver for bass guitar, especially when retrofitting other cabs. Worth a look. It'll work well in your 3cu.ft. May need some tweaking of the port, may not. Would need the dimensions of your port to figure that. |

Um, wow Deep, defined, enough slice to credibly slap, though I rarely do. Handles fuzz like a champ. Much happiness in Ender-land

Mine's still thumping with the original CTS speakers. I'll follow this thread to get upgrade ideas! |

I picked this whole rig up for $200. All channels work and no scratchy pots. It's loving semi-retired life in the band rehearsal room now. |

This one has a pair of EV Force 15's and some Parts Express grills. The EV's cost about $80 each back around '81. A big improvement over the stock drivers it came with. Grills are about $20 each with mounting hardware.
Probably late '70's cab. I picked it up in a package of used gear around 1980, a Rick bass, the Peavey head and cab, for $450. I sold the Rick alone for more than the package cost. (probably should have hung on to that )
Scrounged castors complete the "road worn" look. This thing knows the way to many a dive bar, and most of the great blues tunes. Heavy when drunk.
Amazingly, it's still for sale.

| haha, an insightful question The speakers were $130 each, plus $25 for the mattress pad (though I also used it on another old Peavey cab I have) so all told ~$290-300? There have been a couple of other 215s on the local CL for around that price, and I haven;t installed the speakon, new corner protectors, towel bar, tilt back wheels, or grilles yet.
Let's call it the SX of bass cabs
