You should look into a preamp/power amp setup then. There have been some positive things said about the Ampeg SVP preamp around here. JimmyM is a user of the Sansamp VT, I believe. He is pretty knowledgeable about all things Ampeg as well. Maybe he'll swing by and drop some suggestions.
