Any love for Marshall?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've noticed a lack of love for Marshall. Does anyone have any experiences with them? I dig the MB combos, i have the 2 by 10 and am looking to by a good extension cab. I'm contemplating the matching 1 15 but it's a bit out of my price range.

Does anyone use Marshall, and with what cabinets?

I used the Marshall MBC115 4 ohm cab. as an ext when I had a Fender 400PRO combo. It had a nice low end and wasn't boomy.
I kept the horn turned off so I can't comment on that. It wasn't inexpensive but still a good deal, IMHO.

The Superbass sounds pretty cool to me.

I use my Marshall VBC 810 cab on a weekly basis in my rockband. As amps, I have used a Hevos 400T, a Trace Elliot V8 and a TC Electronic 450RH to feed it and it works well with all of them. Classic rock-tone with lots of power, bottom-end and clarity without tweeter-issues (since there isn't one).

Marshall bass gear would be the Superbass heads, maybe a Major, The VB400 head and cab series, The 415's and 412's of the 70's.....all that stuff is absolutely awsome gear. Anything else bass related that says Marshall on it has been junk. But thats just my opinion.

My main touring cab has been a Marshall jcm800 215. It sounds great and works for me.

What makes the new stuff junky? I really don't know much about Marshall's bass stuff.

was feeling my ibs cab and ibs combo, but now that i have more hi end equipment i realize that although the celestion sidewinders had great tone they were super boomy, and the boxes were too shallow

ibs 200 watt head had nice warm ss tone, but it wasn't loud enough for my current project

I have been using the Marshall MB4210 combo and was pretty disappointed as it could not not compete with our guitarist's BlackStar. I had to run it so loud just to hear my self and it sounded pants. My options were to get rid of it and gamble on something else or to try the MBC115 ext cab...I went for the second option and all I can say is WOW!
It did exactly what I wanted it to do and some...we play punk hardcore and are a loud band to say the least. I can now hear myself play and my playing has improved because of it, I no longer have to hit the strings as hard. I found that before, me and the guitarist were fighting for a lot of the same frequencies and I would always loose. The addition of the 15 inch speaker has given us a whole new range that all belongs to me!!!
I'm so glad I went for it, it's exactly what we (the band) needed to round out our sound.

I use an MB30 practice amp for bedroom stuff. Tone is pretty awesome for what it is,, but it doesn't handle a low B at all .

Peace,
Greg

Lots of love for Marshalls from me!! Been running Marshalls all my life. Right now my main rig is VBA 400 into IBS (JCM 800 Bass Series) 4x12 and 2x15 cabs. The 4x12 cab (model 1520) didn't have it's original Sidewinders in it whne I got it, so I put 4 Eminence S2012 Basslites in it. The 2x15 cab (model 1552) has it's original Sidewinders. The only thing I changed about it was to line it. Before the VBA 400 amps, I was running early 70s Super Bass amps. I still have them, and I still use them. I love the Marshall tone and crunch.

Cheers!

The issues for Marshall bass gear, IMO, are that availablility is quite limited in the US (never laid eyes on a single amp or cab myself), it tends to be pretty heavy according to the specs, and the highly praised vintage heads like the Major and Superbass seem to fetch high prices on Ebay, so it's hard to take a flyer on them.

Rocking my 100 watt plexi amp with the Hendrix cover band. It's the sound of rock to me.
