Any opinions on Eden WTX 260 amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a smaller amp. I'm thinking of picking up an Eden WTX 260 head for practice & small gigs with a single 12 cabinet. Anyone have experience with this amp? According to Eden's tech guys, it has features the newer 264 doesn't. I currently have an Aguilar DB 750 with a GS212 and GS210. Sounds killer, but you could drop a testicle moving it. Probably playing rock/blues, some jazz.

I'd go with the WTX-500 (and did) for the headroom.

The only differences between the 260 (which I have) and the 264 that I can see:

260 has power switch on front; 264 has it on the back.
260 has limit, protect and standby lights; 264 just has limit.
260 has no mute light; 264 does
260 has pull-knobs for compressor bypass, 12dB pad, and pre/post DI. 264 doesn't show these labels, though the functions may be there.

When I had one, I found it to be very under powered. Great tone, but pretty much useless live due to how it clipped.

Definitely go with the 500 if you're considering Eden.

Comparatively, the GK MB200 seems like it is more useable/ louder than the WTX 260, but very different tonally.

It depends on the efficiency of your cabinet, because the 260 doesn't have lots of power, especially into a single eight-ohm cab. With two cabs, wattage and cone area both double, getting you 6dB more loudness.

With one Eden 112XLT (which is aggressively heavy in mids), it's quite loud. I added a second 112XLT when playing with the rock band (drums, keys, two guitars and vocals). It was fine there.

With a less aggressive cabinet, you'd need to count on high efficiency to help out. A BFM would kick butt due to its efficiency. A low-efficiency Acme would be lost.

The WTX500 would fare better on all counts, since it has twice the power available.

And, like every bass rig, it all depends on how many decibels you need to produce onstage.

The GK also has a lot more grunt than the WTX500 IME

I had one and liked the tone, but as others have said I found it underpowered (and I'm not a rock player, more of a mellow jazz type). I finally bought a 500 watt Carvin BX500 and find it much better with the increased headroom.

Thanks for all the replies. I tried a 260 and did find it to be a bit underpowered. I'm going to go with the WTX 500. I guess watts are similar to basses, you can never really have too many. Thanks again guys. Now, if anyone is selling an Aggie GS112 at a great price...
