Any suggestion for bass Amp that can cut through in a Hard Rock band

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm out checking a replacement bass amp. Soon I'll have a 4x10 but until then I need a bass amp which can help cut through a Hard Rock band. I love the tone I have (SWR 350) and prefer note definition over fat boominess. But I'm constantly competeing my tone with the Rhythm guitarist.

This is what I am up against in order to let my runs cut through with clarity.

Lead guitarist uses Gibson with Fender half stack in standard tuning (not a problem here).

Rhythm guitarist uses Ibanez with Line6 head and peavey 4x12, the main concern is that his 6 string is custom configured to Drop A

I've read about the TBP-1 which I like but may not be bright enough? There's also the SWR Headlite but I'm curious what other brands may be recommended.

That sounds like a perfect fit.

What 410 are you getting? G-K NEO 410 will get that done, the NEO 412 does that amazingly well while still giving sweet low end. If the 410 cab is on the low heavy side you'll be fighting the cab with any amp head.
I use the G-K Fusion 550 with the G-K NEO 412 and no one steps on me, no one. The lead tried with two different Marshall stacks, ryth with a BadCat and an Egnator, not happening.

Try out the GK 1001rb. Plenty of power and tone there. The most reliable piece of gear I have ever owned.

According to the masses on this forum, all you need is anything with power tubes in it even if it is only 25 watts!

My vote goes for the G-K 700rb-II. It has plenty of power and in my opinion it has the best tone of all the G-K heads.

This! Other suggestion would be SVT 7Pro.

I love my Phil Jones. Absolutely clear and punchy. I sold my SVT for this and never looked back. The best deal is probably their 6 pack combo amp, but you also need a 9B extension cab or it won't be loud enough.

I plan on selling my 4x12s to purchase 2 more Eminence Delta 10 speakers. My buddy is making a 410 cabinet for me.

I have been looking closely at both the 1001rb and 700rb-II after the suggestion of the 800rb. A buddy played a GK in a musicians program we have here in Sacramento from Skips Music and I made a mental note on how much I like the tone so G-K has definitely perked an interest.

So the 700 tone varies from the 1001?

The 700rb-II has more warmth to my ears than the 1001rb-II and is easier to get that G-K growl. It will someday be a classic.

I think the idea is that gks tend to sound better when they're pushed, so the 700rb is going to reach that point sooner since it's lower powered.

Im thinkin 6x10 or more....

Also, there are a lot more heads out there than a GK. Genz does everything GK does, only better

If it were me and I have to compete with 2 guitarist also, I suggest playing through either a Carvin BX1500 into a SWR Megoliath cab running bi-amped or I also like the Fender 1200 head with the SWR cab or the Fender 6x10 cab. These sounds are GREAT and both cut through the mix....Just a suggestion. Good Luck on your pick.

I don't know if it's the masses but I agree!

Except for maybe a hard rock band Honestly, I'd be looking to get a second 410 instead of beefing the wattage.

I own that amp and play classic rock with loud guitarists and I have an Eden 210 and 115 and I barely have enough head room.

I just switched that amp for a Eden WT 550 and I have way more headroom now. The GK is 450 plus 50. I used the Eden yesterday at rehearsal and had tons of headroom and not articulation galore.

I actually was able to add some EQ to get more bottom which is what I like with my Gedddy Lee

You need bigger cabs. Headroom problem solved. I had 810 with my 700rb II and never had a headroom problem. Now I've got a GK 412 neo and no headroom problem. And my band is notoriously loud.

If they're both 8 ohm that's what I'd do. I don't think any SWR heads are safe below 2.6 ohms.
