...but they are designed to be used together. I wouldn't do it with any standard-brand cabs. |

I bet it would fill the room like a beast and if the 15 were on its side they would line up in terms of dimensions. I haven't done it because I prefer a 4x10 for punch at the bigger venues. The times I've mixed cabs (particularly when from the same manufacturer/product line), results were great. I mainly play metal and can get by without hifi frequency perfection.

It worked fine and was loud as hell (when driven with a 1500 watt amp!) Both the drummer and I could hear it thanks to the Schroeder being near ear level, its one-straight, one-angled configuration as well as its mid-bump voicing. The 15" added some low thump.
That was in the past, though. Now I use a single 15/6 fEARful for all gigs regardless of the venue size, indoors or outdoors, and whether or not there is good PA reinforcement.

Provides a VERY wide frequency response from my Alembic pre and QSC or Peavey power amp. I used to split them in a bi-amp application, but decided I liked it better full range to both. It's louder that way :-)

I have also used a Mesa Venture combo (basically a MPulse600 head driving a PH2x12) on top of another Mesa PH 1x12 for a 1x12+2x12 rig. It was a very big sounding rig, but pretty much overkill for the vast majority of my gigs.
The common wisdom about mixing speaker dimensions is fine and dandy, and I do not argue with engineers about dispersion characteristics and mixed cabinet resistance issues, but it is also a very good idea to listen with your ears and not your eyes. Sometimes something that is not supposed to work technically, can deliver great results. Lucky accidents.

Separate amp for the 12"s.
I use very light and responsive stock guitar celestions for the 12"s, the 15"s are JBLs that provide the beef.
