Anybody use an Eminence Lab 15 in a build?

Im bored at work, so I'm putzin around with winISD and the Eminence website. Anybody check this driver out yet?

With one of these in a 4.7 cubic foot vented enclosure tuned to 23.2hz the -3db point is 25hz!

Am I missing something...i mean, why arent we all over this thing? Its not like it requires a giant box, and it'll get damn loud too!

Because it requires midbass crossed over at 120hz or so, which makes for an incredibly expensive and heavy passive crossover, so would require biamping or triamping to work as a bass cab.

* and we don't really need extension that low, and the sensitivity is so low that a 3015LF can outperform 8 LAB15's down to 45hz.

Only that you have absolutely no use for 25Hz response, and that 88dB sensitivity is at least 6dB too low.

I have used them, and agree with what has been said. They are kind of a true subwoofer. They are great at being a a sub, but kind of a one trick pony. If I try playing my bass through it, I will let you know. Mine is in a 3 cubic foot box tuned to 35hz. great portable sub that plays at least 1/2 octive lower than most PA subs. For a more versitile and bass guitar friendly option, I would consider something with a lighter faster cone. I picked up a pair of BMS 15n850v2 on ebay, and love playing bass guitar through one of them.

It's a true subwoofer, needs a whole top cab, can't go straight from there to a midrange. The Lab series is a non-neo option in Bills horn subs, but that's a whole 'nother breed-o'-cat......makes them loud. Sensitivity is too low for a direct radiator cab.

Perfect if you want a power hungry, inefficient, and heavy cab that will still need another regular sized bass cab to match with it to be usable.

maybe

Someone will have to try it with a bass guitar and tell us how it sounds. IMO it does make a serious low rumble from a small box. It is kind of like a cross between a pro audio driver and a car or hifi sub. It is hard to beat for bass heavy: pop, rap and dance music in its size range. The cone might be too heavy and slow for live music, or maybe it will sound great? I haven't tried it yet. When I do, you will hear about it. But regarding efficieny: in the 30hz to 80hz range, you can't go by the published SPL sensitivity. It is often measured as an average going up to 2000hz, and is way lower in the deep bass region. Power is cheap and light these days, if it sounds good to you, bring it as a sub, and biamp it with something like a 1x10 or 2x10 cabinet.

There's no need to go that low, nor even close to it.
