Anyone have any info on the new Bergantino HD series coming out?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was looking at bass club chicago's website to see if they were still carrying the AE series cabs, and it seems all they have left are a couple NV's... the site said they were supposed to be getting the new bergantino HD series in october. I've tried doing some searching but couldn't find any info really. My apologies if this has already been brought up in the forum before.

Does anyone have any info on the new series that they could share? - price, performance, weight, anything really...
Thanks a lot guys.

Here's a post from Tom Bowlus that gives some general info:

I think a pair of the HD210 would be a great solution for me.

It will be interesting to see how much they weigh and what their tone profile will be.

Well, as I mentioned in the other thread, they will be out in mid to late October; they will feature ceramic drivers, tolex covering, metal corners; the HD212 is in the same box as the AE212 and uses the same tweeter; the HD210/410 have the same tweeter as the HS21/410, but the drivers have been tweaked for more upper midrange detail; the HD112 is an HT112ER with a different tweeter (and probably crossover) and the different covering; the HD212 weighs less than 80 lbs (not sure about the others); Jim has been considering a number of other designs, but these are the cabs he's committed to producing, at this point.

That's about all I know for now...

I think out of all of them, the HD210 and the 1x12s appeal to me...looking forward to it.

I believe that was a prototype that was not carried through to production.... the current line seems to be a 112, 212, 210 and 410.

From what I understand, all the new cabs use the same tweeter as the discontinued AE/HS lines. The 12's (112 and 212) use the HT112ER driver (so, very deep and fat and full). Not sure if the HD 10's use the HS drivers or not.

So, seems like a cross between the old HT design (heavy, deeply voiced ceramic cabs) and the HS line (with the less hi fi sounding tweeter).

I'm sure they sound great, but nothing in the specs interests me at all. IMO there. If the 212 is basically a HT212ER, that should be a pretty killer box, although with a pretty killer weight also (80 pounds). It probably won't have that very crystal clear, hi fi top end, given the different tweeter, but should kick like a mule down low, if that is your thing.

Wow, 80lbs?! That's some serious weight. Does it have casters? My DB212 is 69lbs and that is fairly heavy.

I think that rules it out for me, Id have to go for the 112s.

I assume it does. The specs are in the link in a post in this thread (from Greg's Rocket Music Berg thread).

Yeah, that is an over the top weight for a 212 IMO (the 410 is almost 90 pounds). That is going to surely limit the appeal of these larger cabs in this new line IMO.

I actually got to play the 310. I was a bit disappointed Jim decided not to bring it into production. This cab had some cohones!

I think that was even heavier than the 212. Pretty hard to sell a 310 that weighs more than most 410's. I know there are players who don't really care about weight though, so who knows. I'm sure these cabs, just like the old HT's that also weighed a ton, will sound great in their own way.

I guess if you are a player who is more of a hobbyist who doesn't gig much, or a weekend warrior who plays in a band that always has load in help, there might be a place for these in the market.

You would be surprised. Heavy as it is,and it is heavy, there are always people who will want it. Working in a bass shop I can tell you that people have different goals when it comes to cabs. Lots of times weight is an issue but I see plenty of guys who dont care one bit about that. They just want the tone they are looking for and dont usaually find it in a neo cab. Ya know know what they say though, thereis a seat for every a**!

+1 There are a LOT of guys who have great day jobs, rarely gig, but LOVE good sounding gear and don't care about price or weight. And again, for the guys who play in bands and always load in together, weight is less of an issue.

The big, heavy NV line makes much sense, since the old school sealed sort of players have always been OK carrying the big metal and wood. However, for more modern tone goals, heavy is a bit of a hard sell. Jim discontinued his larger HT cabs years ago, and I believe discontinued the HS line even before the neo pricing thing resulted in him discontinuing the AE line. I'm sure the HD112 and HD210 will find a market. Not so sure about the big boxes though. We will find out!

Before the neo crisis I kept telling Jim to put out a neo 322!

While I'm still totally happy, set, and thrilled with my AE cabs, my guess is, the HD line will be a 'transition' line until the neo thing settles down (which seems to already have started, with the neo raw material price dropping quite a bit on the commodity market, from what I've read recently).

I'll be keeping an eye on Jim's site for the eventual 'HDL" line (High Definition Light)

I have an HT112ER and left it too late to get a second one. I notice that the HD112 has the same 12" driver but is a tad less sensitive than the HT and also the HT is slightly taller although other dimensions are the same. I am contemplating buying an HD112 to pair with my HT112ER, if I was to use one as the bottom cabinet with the horn turned off (basically like the old HT112) would this be a viable match?

Strange that he didn't configure the 210 in vertical format like the updated AE 210, especially since most posters greatly preferred that updated configuration.

Cabs look nice, and I like the tolex. More durable than the AE spray on, and 'higher end' looking (IMO) than the rat fur on the old HS and HT line.
