An Ampeg SVT-3 Pro (early 90's USA model) matched with the classic Ampeg 8x10 cab (also USA made edition)? Any thought or comments appreciated.

I had lots of experience with it in the late 90's. Used to own a 3 Pro. At the time I thought it was about as close to the tube SVT sound as you could get in a hybrid or SS amp, although I was not especially impressed with its tube sound-copping abilities. It's just that it was better than anything else at the time.

Nowadays I prefer their micros for tube sound-copping, especially the SVT 7 Pro, but for those who aren't interested in that so much, the 3 Pro's a terrific amp.

I used to run that exact rig, but the fridge was to big to move cross country when I moved. It was great. A pain to move, but sounded killer. It can get louder than anything you will ever need. If I had more money, I would have had a 4pro, and if ever go back, I might consider a 7 now. I now use the hlf410 with the pro3, which is a great match as well. I still miss the fridge, but not moving it. The 3 has enough power, but the 4 and 7 both have enough to handle just about any rig you may get in the future. One thing, the 3 is pretty heavy, and the 7 is super light in comparison. I might even consider the pf500 to be a good alternative. The 3 has the graphic eq, which I don't think the 7 does.

Thanks guys....I got the head for $300 in super clean shape. Figured for $300 I couldnt pass it up. I like the sound so far through the 8x10's! Probably tear it apart and give it new tubes and call it good. The only thing is I like the speakon cables, and this being from the 90's, doesn't have that...oh well....small sacrifice to pay for this baby!
