Anyone have or have played around with a Ampeg SVT-450H?

I have a SVT-350H and I really love this amp. It gets the job done, and I able to dial in all the tones that I like. Anyway I noticed that Ampeg makes a 450 watt version now. '

Is it much louder and fuller? One thing about the SVT-305 is that I wish the bass EQ had just a tad more juice to it. Its still fine for my needs though.

Another thing is that I have never really got to push this amp to its full potential since my speaker cab is one of those old Mexican Made 4x10 Fender BXR410H. The horn is in it but was disconnected when I got it, and the speakers have seen better days. So the only time I really got to see what this amp would do was when I test played it a bit at GC through a GK 4x10. It was a lot fuller.

I would like to keep my SVT-350, later up grade to the SVT-450 if it is louder and better, and then upgrade my cab status.

I had one it played great but I had to get rid of it because it just wasn't loud enough for me! So I got the SVT CL!

i'd keep the 350 and upgrade to a 3 or 4 pro at the least, or an svt-cl or vr if you can swing it. the 450h is more of a lateral move. it's only 100w more, which isn't enough to make a whole heck of a difference. but the 3 and 4 pro have better tones imho, so if you're going to upgrade, UPGRADE!

Good point, and I bet if I am patient and just save my pennies then I can find a 3-Pro or 4-Pro used at the same price as a New SVT-450H.

FWIW the B2E Head is the same head as the 450H, just not in that classic Ampeg head wooden box everyone likes, it is a small rackmount....

That will save you at least $200 or so.

That explains something...

Georgestrings is hinting about your cab. Replace the cab before doing anything in your situation. Any new amp heads you buy will be held back by your sub-par cabinet.

The 100 watts between the models are not worth your time. 3 PRO, 4 PRO, 6 PRO or a new 7 PRO are the way to go if you like Ampeg. Go used if you can! Good luck

I would definitely switch that cab out for something nicer. Quality speaker cabs can be found quite cheap these days and will give you some very worthwhile results:

A. A better tone
B. Much more efficiency per watt = More sound
C. Most new cabs (4x10's, 1x15's, etc.) are constructed to be noticeably lighter than many cabs from 10+ years ago.
