I played through both the L-2 and the L-4 back in the day. I never owned one but I do remember I liked them, they were just out of my price range at the time.

On a slightly related note, the L-5 is concidered by many (myself included) to be the best sounding solid state guitar amp ever built.

Norlin era gear generally gets a bad rap but Gibson really hit it out of the park with the Lab Series stuff.

Lab series amps

Yeah, I have an L2 that I use a lot at home. The Gibson RD Artist sounds great through it

check this link

It sounds really good - very different to the Ampeg/Marshall stuff I also use, but a very nice amp all round

But I have an L4 head too - just doesn't get used because I have the L2 permanently set up. Similar ballpark I suppose but I liked it less.

one of my favs, detroit native Ralphe Armstrong used the Gibson RD artist and the Lab series amps back in the days with Jean Luc Ponty. Killer tone from a smokin player.

BB King used a Lab L5 for many years. He knows great tone when he hears it.
