Anyone run a mesa head into a GK cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a M9 Carbine head(I have not received it yet)and have a GK Neo 412 cabinet. This will be the first time in my life that i will be running a different brand of head into a GK cabinet. What if any will the drawbacks be by doing this cause i don't really want to shell out $1300 for the Mesa 412 as it is the same wattage as the GK i already have.Anyone think i will have any issues?

Might be great; might not.
I'd recommend taking your head to a GK dealer and trying it.

Should be fine. I'm curious, I've thought of trying GK neo cabs with my Mesa head.

I own an M9 and a Mesa PH412 and also owned a GK 412 at the same time for awhile and was able to compare the two cabs side by side with the Carbine. The GK was actually louder (more efficient) then the Mesa and much more "modern" or hyped sounding. The highs are higher and the lows are lower at the same volume. It was a great cab in my opinion but I liked the Mesa 412 for its sublime balance and overall sweet tone. The GK was a little over the top in that sense but still a very impressive cab.

Also the GK cab was shorter then the Mesa but actually wider which made it a bit of pain getting through doorways. The lack of handles on the sides and bottom were also an issue the the tilt back wheels were very cheap and bent easily.

Everything about Mesa is overbuilt and super solid but the GK was still a very impressive cab.

It's not going to hurt it unless you crank the amp too much, if that's what you're asking. I'm sure you can get some really nice sounds out of it if you mess with the controls some, there's a lot of flexibility in the M9.

I can't speak directly to the GK412, so I won't.
I will say the M9 is thoroughly capable of overwhelming the 2xGK112 stack I have.

Thanks for the input so far.I will probably just use the GK for now and in a few months i would like to pick up a Mesa 412.These are both quality companies so i am sure i will be able to get a sound out of it i can live with.

I have had the G-K NEO 412 for some time now (first gen). It settled in and became quite balanced after about 16 hours of use. Sounded awesome with my old V4B, 800RB, Marshall and now only the G-K Fusion 550. Its been across state lines many times, up and down stairs, in and out of pickups and trailers and never any problems (wheels or otherwise). Hope that helps a little.
First gen was 118lbs BTW and every bassist in my town wants me to retire and sell it to them.
