Currently, I'm running a single 2x12 @ 4 ohms. My Carvin B800 head runs a max of 500 watts at 4 ohms. I have found a matching 1x15 cab though and am thinking about picking it up. It is 4 ohms as well and my head says that its capable of 2 ohms with 800 watts of power.
Is anyone else running a 2x12 and a 1x15? I've never ran an amp at 2 ohms before either. Any chance of it over heating or having problems running at its max potential?
Thanks guys!

The mere presence of a low-impedance (low-"ohmage") load won't overheat an amp. It's the work the amp is doing into that load that determines its heat output. My point is that with so few speakers handling that many hundreds of watts, the amp will never get to the point, output current-wise, where it starts getting hot; your speakers will yell uncle way before then. However, if you were driving two SVT cabs, then it'd be another matter, because now we're talking about lots of voice coils and cones able to handle lots of current, plus SVTs aren't the most efficient cabs on the planet, either. That's when you might have a concern. But even then, if the amp were spec'd for safety at two ohms, there'd be no need to worry, assuming proper ventilation. (Some guys get into trouble when they start cramming things into a rack without thinking first.)
Don't worry, you're safe.
Hope this helps. |

I'm on a 2x10 and a 1x15 and it sounds good. Just listen to it. As long as the wattage and resistances are OK and you like the sound, go for it.

I first bought my 2x12 used (in like new condition) and fell in love with it. When I saw this matching 15, I knew I had to have it because ordering a new cab would take forever if I got it. Its a shame really, his bass cabs are the best I have ever owned...

Especially in reflex cabs. I've already PM'd the OP on that matter. |

You read all the threads about how he's stiffed tons of people and you still sent him money? |

thanks.
