Anyone use a GB Neo-Pak? And what cab do you favor with it? I still need a cab for that amp. Have considered a Berg EX112ER or a Bag End S15-D. Any thoughts would be cool. Thanks! |

Its 2 ohm modded so I usually use it with my GB Neox 112T + Neox 212T as a 3x12 stack, works great. 'Course when I added the VT pedal it really works great now. I used use active 5 string Skyline, 55-02D or US Cirrus 5 with that rig. When I started using my stock/passive '08 Am St P5, the VT pedal really makes this combination sing.
Sorry can't speak to the Berg or BE cabs, tho I'm always eye-ballin them cabs on the TB classifieds. |

. | Ed use to have a Neo Pak also.
I know a small shop that still has one new, never sold. Problem is the aging store owner thinks it's a new latest thing amp. He doesn't know they aren't even made anymore and won't swing any particular deal on it. |

| | | | I have one with the 2 ohm conversion, and apart from the problems I'm currently experiencing with it (got it second-hand), I can't really complain.
I use it with a Warwick 410 4 ohm cab, and I think sounds great on it. I also tried it on an Ampeg 610 and a Hartke 410, and it kills. It's not the loudest amp though, so I'd try to get the conversion if yours still doesn't have it and get all the watts out of it.
I have no experience with the Bergs. I just think the way the amp is voiced, the inherent sound somehow translates well on any cab. It's not too brittle, never muddy. I'm also beginning to appreciate the mid controls. Very useful and musical.
I just hope I get mine fixed before our next gig! |

I haven't heard it with a GK cab but with my Genz 212NeoX it sounds great. I would think the Genz 112neoX would be better. |

I use it with BFM Omnis - 10.5 (110) for small gigs, 10 (210) for medium gigs, and both together (2.67 ohms, 3 10s) for big gigs or for when I want more lows than the 210 gives.
It's a rocking amp.

But now that you mention the Neox 112, how would you compare it to the S15-D. I play a passive 4 string, fingers and pick (no slapping, worth mentioning). Allman brothers, steely dan. I like the old warm, round "tubey" sort of sound. Thanks. This thumbs up is intentional (sp?). |

The Bag End doesn't have the low end but the low mids are so strong that it fools you into thinking it's got some lows.
I haven't tried the 112neoX but that's one cab that I think I could really love if it compares at all to the 212.
The Bag End is going to cost a bit less than the Genz 112 and I think you'd be fine with either. Try to see if someone in your area has one of these cabs to try out before you buy. If not, RocketMusic sells Genz and has a 14 day return policy but you get stuck with the shipping if you didn't like it. |

I use them interchangably on the gig through either a Berg HT112 or an EX112, sometimes both. I do low volume musical theater and jazz orchestral work. I generally go for a very articulate and detailed sound, but cranking up the tube gain a bit can give a very pleasent grit to my '65 Jazz with the bridge pick-up favored. In many theaters where I work, I find cutting a bit around 250 Hz is necessary to avoid lots of boomy standing waves, so the semi-parametric mids is a real plus. I love the sound of either amp through the Bergs. While playing at home I find myself favoring the Neo-Pak slightly, maybe just a little bit warmer sounding. On the gig I can't really tell one from the other.
I did audition a Berg HT112ER extensively at Bass Specialties in Bensalem PA with both the Neo-Pak and the Shuttle...superb sounding. If I hadn't just bought the HT and EX set up a couple of months before the ER came out I would definitely have bought the ERs. The difference between the new and old models is notable, but a judicious use of the EQ can make that difference fairly small in practical terms on the gig.
Cheers,
Dennis |

" may be very helpfull. I've wondered about if there is enough lows with the S15-D, but at the same time I don't like real boomy or sub type of lows. When I listen to music on my stereo, of course I want to hear the bass, but I commonly cut the bass back a bit depending on the way it was recorded. I'm going to make a trip to Austin, to Bass Emporium and check out their cabs. I really hope I prefer the Bag End. It just has so many pluses (+'s).
biobass, thanks for the great input. A Berg EX12ER (or HT) is an expected winner also. This setup will be used more at home than out anyway, so your statements are very helpfull. Many Thanks. |

OTOH every Bergantino cab I have heard has been the best sounding cab of its particular configuration I've ever heard, but that quality will cost you. Can't go wrong with either I think.

When I was a kid growing up, we had little to none to choose from. It was like Fender & JBL or Altec. Which wasn't bad.
Thanks for the input. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
