Anyone Using A Sansamp VT Bass In Front of An Avalon U5?

Results?

Do you get any phasing problems, or experience too much gain when using the U5 in the active mode?

To get Geddy Lee's tone, won't you also need his hands and all the rest of his equipment?

I'd like to keep this thread focused on the equipment, not a debate about someones hands etc., which I'm sure are a factor somewhat.

I'm editing the original post to remove the reference

Thanks.

OK, point taken.

I don't see why there would be any phase problems, because you're only taking the VT through the Avalon. It might be a problem if you were mixing both the pre-Avalon and post-Avalon signals, but I doubt you're doing that.

As for gain, you'll have to keep the VT Bass level very low, because the Avalon expects an instrument-level signal. The VT Bass can put out a huge level.

I presume you aren't asking about the output of the Avalon, because you can adjust that.

Yes, I often run a VT bass into an Avalon U5 and have had good results. And, yes, I keep the gain on the VT low. I haven't experienced any phase-related problems.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of using the U5? Surely the U5 wouldn't be adding much if anything to the tone... other than a DI...

@ Evolver: what tone advantage/difference does this have over running the VT directly into the poweramp?
