Ashdown 2x10+1x15 OR Warwick 411 pro?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,

Been reading up a lot on what cabs I should upgrade to. I'm currently running an Ashdown ABM500 through an 8ohm Mag 410t. I also might be getting an Ampeg SVT-CL depending on how an auction goes. Of course, if I get the svt, I'll need another cab to get to 4ohms. I want to get rid of the mag; has served me well, I'd just something a bit lighter, more efficent, and 4ohms so it uses all the eve III's power.

I've got 3 options in terms of cabs that will fit in my budget.
1) Ashdown ABM 2x10 + 1x15compact $1200NZ
2) Ashdown ABM 1x15 x2 $1000NZ
3) Warwick wca411pro 4x10 4ohm $500NZ

The Warwick is the unknown really, I have heard dubious things about their amps but their cabs seem to be ok but it's hard to find info on them. I play a P Bass and Pedulla Rapture 4 J2, and rock, progressive, post-rock styles.

Where I'm living got hit hard by an Earthquake and the stores won't be open for a while so I'll be essentially be ordering sound unheard.

Any suggestions?

I have an EVOII ABM500 and use the 2x10 - 1x15 ABM combo to go with the head. I think they match great with the head. They are VERY portable and make transport at gigs super easy. I've been very happy with them. However, I recently bought an old SVT and am looking to cop the old school sealed 8x10 cabs - so I'm getting a Berg NV610 and selling the two Ashdown cabs. I would highly recommend the Ashdowns but you should consider if you want ported or sealed cabs. As much I go back and forth with gear, I just like the focused punch of sealed tens. But again, the Ashdown 210 + 115 go especially well with the ABM head. HTH

Thanks for the great info! Did you try the Ashdown cabs with the SVT? Was it punchy enough or did it have a bit too much flab? More asking if the svt head/Ashdown can combo would give out a good sound.

The WCA411 Pro is (IMO) a very good cab. It keeps your tone meaty without losing clarity. It also has a horn attenuator (frequency range: 1,2kHz-20kHz) and can deliver lots of lows without getting boomy. But TBH I don't know if this cab is a good match for an Ashdown amp...to me Ashdowns tend to sound a bit too "bassy" (I traded mine because when used through my current Kustom DE410 cab the low freqs were too dominant). I think the 411 Pro will complement a modern sounding amp better.

Only did that combo on one gig but it wasnt the best venue. Sound was good but I felt that it wasnt enough speakers. If you are playing at high volumes through the SVT, the Ashdowns may not be enough.

I definitely dig the Warwick pro 411. Absolute clarity and killer low end. Tried one out only this afternoon, along with some other quads roughly around the same price range - TC Electronic, GK and Hartke. Although the Hartke was very good, the Warwick was definitely a stand out all-rounder. Everything I want in a cab. I suppose it's all up to tone preference though, I can see why the GK's are really popular.

I recently sold a Warwick Pro411.
Great cab! Plenty of punch. HEAPS of bottom end (but not boomy) strong mid's & more than enough top end (use the tweeter carefully!)
Only reason I sold it was I injured my back & it was an older German made model which I believe are a bit heavier than the new ones.
I decided to be kinder to my back so I replaced it with a G.K. Neo 2x12 which also sound pretty awesome & is SOOO much lighter it's rediculous!
I also auditioned a Hartke Hydrive 410 which are super punchy & I loved & would have bought but I ended picking up the G.K. Cab 2nd hand for a bargain instead.
I've also found the Ashdown ABM cabs sound a LOT better than the Mag range. Much better frequency response & much clearer. Nice cabs!
The combination of 2x10 + 1x15 works well.
I was using the Warwick 411 with a 2x10 cab on top also. Was nice!
Am now running 2x12 + 2x10. Pretty damn punchy!
