Ashdown 410 and 115 vs. Ampeg 410

Sign in to disble this ad
hi huys,

i'm going to play some bigger gigs with my band so i decided i need a new rig (only used combo's before).
note: i am a noob regarding amps and cabs so any advice would be nice. Also my budget is kinda small since i'm just 18 and i don't really have a job at the moment.

for an amp i think i'm going to buy the ampeg svt 3 pro. (some more advice about this one or other nice amps in this pricerange would be nice)

for a cab i was thinking of:
1. Ashdown MAG 410T EVO 2 deep cab combined with an Ashdown MAG 115T EVO 2
2. Ampeg B-410 HLF
3. Ampeg B-410 HE (also can anyone explain me the difference between the HLF and HE?)
4. ??? cab that also fits in this pricerange.

the bass i will be using is an Spector legend 5 classic
I am only going to play death/thrashmetal with this rig (please don't bitch at me for that )

The 3 PRO and 410HLF is a good rig. The HLF (high-low frequency) is a 4 Ohms full range ported cab that has a BIG bottom end. The HE (high end) is a sealed 410 with a tweeter, it is 8 Ohms and only goes down to 60 Hz (-3 dB) this would sound good with a 8 Ohm 1x15E under it but is not made to be a full range cabinet. Cheers.

i once had a the same ashdown set up you described. It does a pretty nice job but it wasn't particularly great. I have had other set ups too but have a classic 410HLF now. I don't know how it compares to the B series HLF but it is the best cab I have ever owned. It gets incredible lows if you need it. I personally don't use its low freq. handling capabilities to anywhere near its full potential. Since you are playing a 5 string you will probably really like it. I would go with the ampeg. You may want to check out the SVT 7 Pro for a head too. That what i have and i love it. It is much more powerful than the 3 pro. It may be cheaper too, i dont remember. just about every guitar center i have been in has the 7 pro so if there is a GC near you see if they have it and try it out.

Any single 15 cabinet is going to be drowned by any of those 410s and will add virtually nothing to your rig. Far better to go with a pair of matched cabinets. Lots of good reasons for this, exhaustively discussed in this forum - check out the FAQ links for a start.
