Ashdown or Basson?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,

I just recently picked up a GK 700rbII head, and I need a new cab.

I'm trying to decide between a Basson 210 or an Ashdown ABM410.

I know the head lacks a bit on the bass side, so I'm looking for a nice, deep cab that will compliment it well. They are both similar price to me, so that isn't a factor here.

What are your opinions?

Thanks!

Where on earth did you get that idea??? The 700rb-II has a TON of low end - probably more than a person could ever need, and even more so if you use the 4/5 string switch...

I doubt I'll ever buy ANY Basson product - rediculously heavy, and they need a ton of power to function as well as any other production cab...

Well, I've only played the head a few times but it seemed to have a bit less low end than the heads I've played before. I just want to make sure my cab adds some nice warm sound to the equation.

Those are my two main concerns with the Basson, it's almost 140 pounds and sucks power. I'm leaning toward the Ashdown, but I wanted to hear some opinions.

Yeah, go with ashdown. I wouldn't look at Basson, unless I had roadies to lift it, and I want the 8x10(230lbs.!!!!).

ashdown by far. basson cabs are fine if you have a 1500w power amp to slam them with and roadies. i don't mind moving a heavy cab but that's crazy!

Guaranteed this impression of "less low end" was the result of the EQ settings and/or the cabs that were being used. The head is not lacking in low end. A cab may be able to help a bit with warmth, since for some people "warmth" means a cut of the highs and a bump in the low mids, but a cab cannot add low end. Just because Basson claims their cabs are good down to super low frequencies, does not mean that their cabs will project the "useful" low end better than other cab brands. In fact there are almost certainly other cabs out there that have better efficiency in the lows, without the ridiculous weight and power issues.

I used an Ashdown ABM500 and ABM410 cab always got a great sound from that cab. Not super deep sounding, but just right for delivering a good punchy bass tone that sits in a mix well. Can't go wrong with that cab.
