Ashdown Evo III 900 + ABM 810

Sign in to disble this ad
First post. I've been lurking through this forum for a while, got a lot of useful information here!

I have a question I didn't find an answer to:

I am using an Ashdown Evo II 900 head with the ABM 810 cab. I am an noob at this, and I only have this setup because a friend of mine hooked me up with an insane deal on it so please, bare with my amateurness

So, I understand that the head is superbly powerfull and that the cab is just as loud. I read somewhere that in order to achieve the heads full potential (considering it's stereo) you must use 2 cabs with it...?!
Now, I noticed the back of the head has 'speaker right' and 'speaker left' so should I connect 2 speaker cables from the head to the 2 speaker cables on the cab..? Or does that have nothing to do with the full "power" of the head to the cabs?

Many thanks in advance!!!!! ....more questions to follow

You should have a "bridged" output as well. Hook that up to your single cab "input" and go forth and play. If you don't have a bridged output, simply pick a channel and hook that one up to the cab. Your cab has two jacks, but one is output to run another cab in series. Unless you are playing on a live stage in a large auditorium, and there isn't any PA support, you don't need to run that massive of a rig at full potential. You certianly won't need more then an 8X10 either. See if you can download an owners manual on the Evo. You should really read through it and understand what it does before you fry something. I'm sure a simply google search can help you find one. Best of luck.

Just how much volume do you need, Mr. Noob?

8x10 is a wall-o-speakers - - are you playing stadiums or something?

It's always a good thing to have some headroom in an amp - and i'm sure that with that head, you'll have plenty. I run an ABM500 head into two 2x10" cabs and get far more volume that I can use. I did once run this head with a 4x10 and a 2x10 and it was *earthquake* loud...

*fun*!

But don't forget your earplugs when that jackass with the six string cranks up his half-stack... Tinnitus *sucks*!!!

Well, if you can find a matching cab to hook it up to, it might be fun to fire it up - 16 10" speakers should cover your average coffee-house gig...

I know that if I owned it, I'd find a way to do it!

With that amp 2 x 4ohm cabs will get you the most power (it's not bridgeable) but with that cab you have no choice but to just use one side of the amp giving you 575w into the 810 which as the guys have said will be enough for almost anything? (you basically will be using the amp as if it was an ABM500 when running one of the channels in this way)

PERFECT!! Thanks! That makes total sense to me now!
So a 1 810 cab (which is 1200w) is WAY to much for this amp...? Considering I am only feeding 575w to it?

Cab is perfect, the 900 has 2 amps non bridgeable @ 575w ea.
Run the one side for now and Ashdown does have all their manuals downloadable.

That cab will run very nicely off that amp.
