Ashdown Little Giant 1000 + Accugroove 112L

Sign in to disble this ad
This is the new rig I got in a trade-in. I have been reading the stickies and the wealth of information around Talkbass but I am still not really sure about a lot of the technical details.

The Accugroove is rated at 400w and is the 8 ohm version. There is no danger in the 500w 4 ohm load from the head going into this cabinet, correct? I know it will not truly be 500w since the 8ohm has a higher resistance.

Anyway, it's a pretty killer rig! I hope to add an Accugroove 115L into the mix at some point.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

good to go

It puts out 500 watts per side into 4 ohm cab, and around 300watt at 8 ohm? The trick will be a balanced load when you get a 2nd cab. If you go with a 4 ohm 15" it will be a lot louder I believe, but you will probably get an expert opinion soon.
Some will say mixing a 15 with a 12 might be a bad choice at any wattage due to phasing issues.

The little giant head is a tricky one to understand because unlike most bass amps it's a stereo amp, not bridgeable. So it's 2x500watts @ 4 ohms per side. So basically to get the full 1000w power, you need two 4ohms cabinets (each will receive 500w).

So if you're using one 8ohm cab, you get about 300w. It will be fine with your accugroove.

If you get a second cabinet in the future, get a 8ohm so then you'll be at 500 watts (or 600 (300+300) if you put one per side). If the second cab you get is 4ohm, this one will receive 500 watts and your 8ohm cab will stay at about 300w so yes one will be louder.

Confusing Amp

I own this amplifier as well and for the last month or three (it's been a while), I have been trying to find the best cabinet configuration for it. I am currently using the ashdown 410T deep with it rated at 450 @ 8 ohms. This thing gets loud (in comparison to my MAG300 210T combo w/ the 410T cab). Techincally it is only rated at 23 more watts (the LG 330W @ 8 ohms each side and the MAG is 307 @ 8), but it really kicks. I personally went with a custom schroeder 21015 wired to work with the LG (blind buy still not delivered), but in all honesty, I know that you will be happy using two 8 ohm cabinets hooked up to each output. Just get the cabinet configuration that you like the best.

FYI, the MAG300 is 300w @ 4 ohms, not 8.

So with your LG, you get 330w@8ohms while with the MAG you get about 150w@8ohm. That is the reason why you find the LG to be louder than the MAG.

Still, watts means nothing really. If fact to notice a small increase in volume you have to at least double the watts.
