Ashdown Little Giant .. RIP

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I've had an Ashdown Little Giant 350 and ABM210T cabinet for a while now, quite happy with it but not enough volume. The LG350 gives full power only into 4 ohm cabs. The 210T is an 8 ohm cab.

So yesterday I got an Eden 210XLT 4 ohm cab. At first it sounded really nice, but there was an annoying whine that tracked the speed of the fan. (I can tell because if you momentarily put your hand on the fan output, the noise from the cab (tweeter) changes).

I swapped back to the ABM210T and the whine went away.

Now the LG350 has stopped working altogether. It just produces a sort of "white noise" output from the cab and the red "power on" LED on the front panel does not come on.
Sounds like it's proper messed-up to me.

Thankfully the cabs are fine.

All of these were eBay purchases, so I guess you pays your money and takes a chance .. <sigh>

Any advice? What's Ashdown's aftersales repair like? Is it likely to be beyond economic repair?

I'm wondering about moving away from lightweight 'class D' amp back to heavyweight good ol analog. What do people think? There's an ABM 900 just come and gone on eBay ..
