Ashdown mag 1000

I wish Ashdown would just put the power section from their Little Giant into the already tried and true mag heads. Drop at least 15 pounds and cal it a day! Would any one else buy it?

I think the Little Giant power section is the quietest 500W I have ever heard. Trace Elliots 200W sound louder than that. The MAGs are great amps, but I really dislike the Little Giant range.

I would just love to have the tone and feel of this amp in a light weight package.

Have you tried Orange Bass Terror and Markbass Little Rocker? I think these might supply you with the sound you are looking for in a lightweight package.

Alternatively, I do not think there is a problem with carrying the MAG head with one hand

I have not yet tried the Orange line yet. I do hear good things about them. In the past three years I have purchased and sold an ABM 500 EVOll, Super Fly, Mesa M6, GK 1001RBll, GK MB212 and came to Ashdown from an Eden rig. I always come back to this amp. It just has the right sound and feel for me. I play keys as well and this sounds great for that. Between Keys and IEMs with a rack full of stuff it would be nice to shave off some more weight. I looked at the Little Giant but after the Super Fly I am a bit Leary.

Hi Jesse
Thanks for your email. In actual fact the Little Giant pre amp is based on the pre amp from the MAG unit, but of course the major difference being that it is a surface mount pcb, making it a lot smaller and we used a digi out rather than standard fet output. So, the sound is as similar as it can be. I'm afraid we do not currently have any sound files.
Regards
Martin

Message: Hello Ashdown,I like your amps and I got a question: How would you compare the sound of the little giant 1000 and the MAG's?It would be real nice if you could send me a soundfile. Thanks in advance,Jesse.
it sounds like the preamp is based on the MAG series

I use a Ashdown LG1000 and it has low end for days(if that's your thing). The lows are very clean. The most interesting feature to me is this models versatility.

If you're familiar with Ashdown amps like the EVO series and the MK500 this is a combination of the two.

Ashdown has taken the very strong points of these two amps and put them in a nice package.

It has the low end, warmth and girth of the EVO series and the hi-fi bite of the MK500(but it doesn't get as brittle as the MK500).

I usually run it with a Ashdown 4ohm cab and overall this rig kicks.

Is the lowend as overwhelming as the ABM? This was the reason I got rid of my ABM (and it blowup). Can you dial it back to get tighter lows?

No it's not a muddy struggling to sound low low at all.
