Ashdown mag 300 EVO III Combo

I tried one of these yesterday and I find it great, there ´s no much to compare with though, (at least in my country), just the new line o GK which I find a little lame in comparison, so anyone have any comments on this combo?
thanks in advance

ps: the compresor is great

Go for it if you like it. I used the less fancy MAG 300 for a period of time. Had a kind of wooly/warm-ish sound and controls that were easy to use. I think it's a good all around amp.

To get more aggressive and bright I bought my Sansamp and used it to have two different types of tones to switch between.

Owned a ABM 500 RC years back and wanted to hear that Ashdown sound again. Bought the MAG 300 EVO III w/built in comp head new at a blowout price just to try Ashdown again. This head def sounds like the Ash I remember; for sure warm-wooly. But only works in certain musical context for me and less power than my other amps. But I have fun jammin with it at home and rehearsals. One gig using a 4ohm, Eden D210T cab, could not get the huge bottom end out this setup. Sounded like a huge church pipe organ; so much huge lows, almost all mud. Coulda been the room or the P5 with Nylon Tapes.

But I have gotten it to grind and cut thru with other more modern, active basses and a GB NeoX 212T cab. @bassj..., now I forget which combos they make; is that a 1x15, 210, or other combo you're considering? And what bass might you run thru it?

I had a Mag 300 rack mount head and loved it.

This is a 1x15 combo, and I´m the proud owner of a american deluxe jazz bass V (2012), do you think this amp is suitable for jazz and blues, even some rock?

pretty sure it would...

but you'd have to make final call of that.

I've used mine in Classic rock/Motown/Blues/Country bands with my Skyline Joe Osborne 5 bass w/lakland pups. It really played well with my TB153 cab; til my xover blew one nite at moderate volumes.

So I have used it with a jazz bass as well. It worked for type of music I mention above. And the deluxe jazz should give more tonal options. Good luck, let us know how it works out.

I used one with matching 2x10 extension cab supplied on bigband jazz gig. Very short of volume compared to a real 300w amp. It only just got the job done. Going by specs they should have been screaming at me to turn it down.

The problem is that the power in the amp does not always convert to acoustic power owing to speaker efficiency. If I remember rightly my Mag 300 was 300 into 4 but the stock 15 was 8 ohm. With the extension can it could put out 300 watts but in my experience both Ashdown and Trace had fairly insensitive inputs. It was hard to push them with a passive bass. The Trace I had was a BLX130.

The BLX prefix was short for, well imagine adding an o both sides of the L and saying it phonetically.

The reason is that there was a slang expression in the UK 'the dog's BLX' which was used to mean the best or first rate.

I have the 1x15 Mag 300 Evo II. The tone is lovely, but you'll need an extra cab to cut through with loud guitarists as its not the loudest. I have mine paired with the Ashdown MAG 210t cab.
