Ashdown Mag 300H questions

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy - I'm new.
I'm looking for a budget head to stick in my band room. I plan to pair it with a hartke xl410 cab that I picked up cheap on ebay.

Needing to replace a Crate BT220 which I was never really happy with and now seems to have died.

Can anyone recomend the Ashdown for loud oldschool garage punk rock (stooges, ramones, mc5)? I geuss the amp does not have to have a pristine sound - I ain't no slap funk player

Also does anyone know what kind of power amp this is i.e class type, chipamp (chip model)/is all transistor style.

Anyone have a link to a schematic - I can't find one? I'm no electronics expert but I would like to know a bit more about it. How does it run in a hot environment, as I live in a semi tropical climate, and our room has no aircon. Does it have quality carpeting? How many empty beer cans can you fit on it?
any info appreciated.
cheers
Steve

I just picked one up in a trade and found a good tone in minutes, I have since put my SWR up for sale. The Ashdown just has a better rock sound. Mine a rack mount head, Im running it with a BBE right now and plan on adding a compressor. It goes through a SWR workingmans 410.

good amps, solid state, but very warm. Plenty of juice and grit.

Ok so I went and bought one yesterday and set it up in our band room. Jammed for about 6 hours - our normal saturday. I'm pretty impressed with this coupled to Hartke XL410 cab and mexican P-Bass. Our band turned into a 3 oiece a while ago so I was looking for an amp to help fill out my sound, other guys were impressed. Its got a great sound actually loud enough for small gigs. Its neutral in that it adds no distinct coloration of its own - also lets you dial in a sound from the guitar just by rolling the tone pot which is really responsive on this amp. Overall I'm impressed, but when you consider how cheap it is - I doubt whether it can be beat i this price range sub $500

Congrats, I love mine, I have a rack mount version, Im running a BBE through it which gives it a nice tight bottom. I also just picked up a Sans Amp Bass Driver, If you play rock, buy one of these. Mines the deluxe programmable version.
