as far as I know, the Mibass has not two power sections and it can't run @2 ohms.
4 and 8 no more and no less.

The MiBass 550 has a single power amp section and it will only run safely down to 4 Ohms and no lower.. It will give its full
output into 4 Ohms.

Still waiting for folks to get these, I guess?

Don't see much written anywhere about them. I've never used an Ashdown amp. How would you characterize their voicing? I'm most familiar with Markbass stuff, e.g. LMII/LMK/LMIII and would likely be pairing this with an Epifani UL112 or UL410.

Though I understand the Markbass F500 would be a match made in heaven for the Epifani cabs, the MiBass 550 is half the price of the F500 here—and is practically a two-channel amp, which would be great for the odd time I play synth bass off an iPad.

I would call their sound quite flat and warm. The EQ is very 'strong' meaning it can cut/boost A LOT of the frequencies you're playing with. They're very versatile, and have a very nice natural overdrive if you crank the gain.

I e-mailed ashdown about the impedance of the mibass 550 as I am on the search for a head for both my UB/ABG and my EBs. They said it's 10k ohms for the active and 1Mohm for passive.
Would you guys suggest this? I think I'll pair it with 2 TC electronic BC212...

I think you may be confusing input impedance for output impedance. The mi's will run 4-8 ohm output impedance to the cab(s).

No, I really mean input impedance. When It comes to doubling heads, 1Mohm input impedance is the recomended for UB/ABG. Adding this, to a bypassable EQ section, this head looks promising.

I'm just a little worried about the power ratings. 550W is a little too much for me, and if the real power goes higher than the stated, as someone elese said it before, I think i'll have to pick up the 220 version. But that may not be enough... I wish that they had made a 300-350W version instead...

The audible difference between 550W and 350W is not that big. Can't you just turn the master volume down?

timely bump of this thread...

I'm interested in how the MiBass sounds, no vids out yet. Was just on youtube and came across a couple Little Giant vids. That little amp sounds pretty nice to me.

I recall some here did not care for the Little Giant head. I'm gonna search here for the LG and see whats up with that. I miss my Evo 500 RCII but could live with a smaller/lighter version of it if its out there.

Thanks for posting this dude. I have tried Ashdown before and never really liked them, BUT, from this demo those MiBass sounded very good. Very deep motown sound. I'm diggin it. It definitely got thump. I think Ashdown got something here.

yeah thanks,

while there I also checked out the video demo of the Spyder 550, I liked that amp as well.

Looks like the LG1000 is outta production and I just won't take a chance on a person shipping me a used Evo II or III and hope that it will get here undamaged.

But I'd chance a new or used Spyder for sure. Only the 250x2 in the TB classi so far. Too bad, I'd rather the 550. Maybe I need to check out the MiBass and just return it if its not all that. Still that Spyder sounds pretty darn nice to me.

I did a MiBass 550 review in german, but you can hear a few sound samples here:

If directed at me?

then thanks schnatzbass. If those 4 samples I found were of the MiBass then thanks again for that. Wondering if you can say here if those samples were just DI'd into soundcard, no cab, mic'ed cab, etc?

And if you care to take the time, might you be able to post here in English what your pros & cons were. I sorta made out some of the German words but not well enough.

Thanks for any info (in english or spanish) if you can make some time for that. But man, the more I hear vids of that Spyder 550 the more I'm liking that tone. Have not searched much on the Spyder; not even sure its not discontinued.

So if the MiBass 550 can get very close in tone, Actung Baby!schweet. But the Spyder (550) from Mars head, das gute. Lil Ziggy St*rdust reference at ya.
