I saw that this cab was now in stock at some online dealers, does anybody had the chance to try one yet ?
I'm am pretty curious about this cab for a while now, it looks like it's exactly the cab I need, but I still wasn't able to get any reviews. |

It's very nice looking and can be used laid on a side or vertical (for a better dispersion) 'cause has rubber feets on both faces.
It's 8Ohm, not really light (31kg), the shape makes it a bit easier to carry than a 4x10" of the same weight.
The sound... it's tweeterless and these 12" aren't very bright, so I'd say if you want a full-range stand-alone cab you'll have to add a tweeter, boost the highs heavily or look elsewhere.
It's pretty strong in the lows and mids and not too boomy. I'm sure that two of them stacked vertically with a sort of "bright box" on top would make a killer rig for not so much money.
Here in Europe you can find it at different prices... the difference can even be €150 between two different stores. The chassis is the same of the VS115. Note that the bass in the pic is a 30" scale, the cab isn't huge.

I'll get one, thanks . |

I really like the look of it. Ashdown stuff always has that "Bomb-proof" look together with classic look... I love it.
What price did you find? As I said, it can vary wildly. |

Thanks. A couple of my friends were inquiring about the price.
I recently spoke with Ashdown about getting one for myself but a 4ohm version. |

Anyway it's a nice, solid cab. I was toying with the idea of buying the Spyder 330 for it but can't find a single review of this head... |

Nice thick sound to it. It definitely has it own thing happening. It's tubey sounding but not over the top with it. And it can get very loud(in a good way) if that's your thing.
It's a well round heavy sounding amp.

No overdrive/whatsoever? How is it if put against an ABM500? |

The drivers are Eminence BETA12LT, very very nice. They lack bottom but sound extremely nice and detailed. A ported cab is recommended, in fact mine are sealed and too "dry" for my taste. If you boost the lows on your amp, anyway, you're good to go. |

I use the Spyder 550 and the ABM 500. The Spyder 550 tube preamp can get very gritty.
They both definitely have their own thing happening. The Spyder 550 also has a growl that the EVO 500 doesn't have. The Spyder 550 seem to have a stronger midrange presence in the grit department and basically overall than the EVO 500.
I've been using EVO 500's since 96 and the Spyder 550 since febuary(2011) and to me the Spyder 550 sounds bigger and thicker than the EVO 500. |

I'm gasing this cab so bad that I'm planning to sell my Ashdown 210T and get the 212. |

I kept it as I think it's really good for the price. Jauqo, sorry for not replying... I didn't check where the cab was built, I GUESS it's made in China but it's extremely well put together.
Has the same solid feel of G&K stuff but with a classy, rétro style.
I'll have to find the highest frequency reproduced by the woofers to choose the right tweeter, I plan to add one (external, without ruining the cab) with velcro. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
