I m looking for a new amp and i hace selected those 3:
Gallien krueger mb112 (200w)
Ashdown Eb 180w
Ashdown t15-250w
Which one would you choose for practicing, and for small gigs? |

| | | | On that list, the Ashdown t15-250w. Wouldn't want to be caught short on a gig. |

The Ashdown is OK, and if it had a tweeter would have been great, but it is way too heavy by today's standards IMO. The GK sounds great, and is very light weight.

First, I'd buy used gear since you'll get more for you money...
I'd buy an old GK400RB head for $125 (they can be had on ebay or here), leaving me with $325 for a cab. I've seen plenty of nice SWR Goliath cabs going for less than that...
New - You're kind of hosed, and for that $$ I'd have no idea what I'd get.
For actual small gigs - as in parties / coffee houses, you can get away with a little combo amp... but anything bigger than that you get limited in a hurry.

It doesn't have a tweter like the GK I think but that's fine for me (I hate tweeters), and I like better the EQ section. |

Thanks! |

| | | | I'd get a GK (and I agree with the MB115 suggestion). Then, I'd add a powered speaker, the new GK powered cab that's coming out, or a 2nd GK MB115 combo later--if I needed more volume.
I have a Roland Cube 100 bass with only 100 watts and a 12 inch speaker. It has a speaker extension output, but I have never used it...I just line out into a powered speaker when I need more.
I do agree though, that if you can afford a separate head/cab, it would be the preferable option. |
