attn: speaker guys - looking for 21 inch driver

Sign in to disble this ad
title says it all, im interested in potentially going the 21 route for some super sub frequencies and ive seen some companies make these enclosures and i just wanted some opinions on which are the best 21s out there. i know accugroove has the whappo grande with a 21 inch driver but i couldnt find what company makes their speakers.

any and all opinions welcome, just looking for an awesome sub.

Technology changes regularly. A 21" isn't needed. Even an 18" isn't needed for true sub use.

But, hey carry on and good luck with your search.

i dont wanna derail this, but then why are 21 inch speakers even made/sold/bought? accugroove wouldnt make one if it didnt sell or serve a purpose right?

If I'm not mistaken, I think Accugroove uses Beyma drivers.

There have been many threads on this. Use the TB Google search with 'Whappo Grande' and 'driver' as your search terms. Beyma gets mentioned often as the likely vendor.

But why stop at a puny 21"? These are way more manly!

Technology schmechnology....I say go big or go home! I've never played through a Whappo Grande myself, but friends have told me stories of gratuitous amounts of bass coming from that thing.

Indeed. Why make 18's then if 15's work? Why make 15's if tens work? It isn't just the speaker size that determines output, but a wide range of speaker parameters along with the design of the cabinet they are put in.

All cabinets (regardless of design) serve a purpose and most, if not all, sell for a variety of reasons. Most of those reasons having little to do with what's actually being produced by said cab.

Accugroove's Whappo Grande had more going for it then just the size of the speaker though and for an 87 lb. cab it should.

But there just isn't a need to use a 21" speaker. If you really want that, just buy the Whappo Grande because the speaker is proprietary to Accugroove.

The thing here is that the OP seems to think that a bigger cone goes lower than a smaller one. This has been proved a fallacy a long time ago.

BagEnd makes them. I played thru one at the namm show in jAnuary. I was pleasantly surprised at the response. I played thru one that was powered with a 1000 watt amp.

Let's say this 21" driver is all that. Do you have any idea what size enclosure it will take to make it actually work? Or power?

I have a Bass tuned E0. Check out Waves, they have a sale and it's worth every dime.

i do wonder, how big would an enclosure have to be for that? probably pretty huge.

lowest i go is G although at some point E0 would be pretty cool. how well does this maxxbass thing work?
