Tom, when is issue 9 being sent out? It looks like on the baer thread somebody has alreay read the ml12 review. I didn't see it availabe as a flipbook, so maybe I just read wrong.

Chomping at the bit to get my pillar of hathor cabs. I've got realistic expectations, but those are still high.

It's available as a flipbook right now. Check my sig. The issues are probably mailing out beginning today. The iPhone/iPad, Android and Kindle apps should be up any day now.

Well; as with most things, pluses and minuses.

Pluses:
The tall form factor. Excellent.
I could hear myself standing right next to it just as well as my 2x112 cab sets.
Throws into the room great. Walked around and checked it out as long as my longest cord would let me.
SPL: I really can't imagine a gig this wouldn't do, for me and my needs.

The Cons:
Tall form factor: it's a little weird to move; and if it were actually heavy, that would be more problematic. As it is, just different.
Had a hard time making it sound "like me."
Don't take this as a negative, for anyone other than me.
I've felt this way about all the TC stuff, and all the fF stuff.
Great as they are at what they do, I enjoy the "regular cab being pushed thing," which really, none of those have ever totally gotten for me.
I use them. I like them.
They're that little smidge short of personal home run.

I know what you mean Chef, as I have done the same. Just can't get that tone that I like, although the TC and fF stuff certainly hits grand slams with most others here. I really like my 212/horn LDS cab, loaded with 3012HO's. It's the closest I've come to, " me ".

It took me awhile to get adjusted to the fact that the TC didn't have that strong mid-range character that I've come to associate with bass cabinets. Now that I'm used to my TC, I really don't like much of anything else.

The thing is, if you play with "sound X" for 30 years then anything that doesn't sound like "sound X" is going to sound wrong to you. That's understandable. It does take an adjustment period. But what I found is that once you get acclimated, you realize that sound X really wasn't very good and was the reason that EQing to some rooms was so difficult. At least that's how it seems to me. YMMV.

I can totally understand how some people will never be able to, or never want to make this adjustment. I think that younger ears that haven't been so heavily influenced by sound X will find the TC easy to love. For us older folk, some may and some may not.

I put my Berg on Craig's list this week. That's as strong a statement as I can make about the TC.

Thats why Im taking a chance on the Hathor cabs. I wan't to strike a balance between solid design and bass cab sound. I already know what the 15pr400 sounds like so it didn't feel like a big leap of faith.

I just got this slight feeling that you may had been a liitle dissapointed with the sound of the TC 212. I am sure you like it but not what you expected. I hope it does work out with a few more test runs and amp tweeking. If that is the case.

No, I wouldn't say "I was disappointed" in the TC212.
I've had 4 other TC cabs now, so I'm pretty familiar with what they bring to the table.

More than anything else, for me, it's this:
I have 14 other cabs in the house. I don't know how that happened, but there you go.

None of them "are all things to all people all the time,"
as much as I wish they would be.

So, there's a lot more that goes into any decision making around here than "what's it sounds like," because, really, they all work well.
Some of that decision making is based on what else is in my toolbox, what shape and size they are, what venue they're being used at, what head to they like, what basses do they like...it's complicated...
