Avatar 2 2x10 or 4x10 questions

I am looking into buying avatar cab/s and have seen more than a few used out there for sale. What's the deal? I play Funk, Top 40, Drum & Bass, jazz, fusion and wedding gigs at various venues and need cab/s that can hold up. I like to know that my cab can give me the meaty lows and not break-up

All cabs break up if you drive them hard enough.

Since you are playing weddings, the need for pounding bass level is not there.

This is what you can expect from a Neo 410.
The Neo is a smooth response from 65 Hz and up.
It is -10dB down at 40 Hz, which is very typical for bass cabs.

I use two Avatar 2 X 10 cabs. I have had one of them since '06 and the other since '07 (which I bought used) and they have held up great. No problems to report. I have no problem with volume or low end especially when I'm using them together. It's all in the way you EQ. I prefer the two 2X10's because I have found that 75% of the time I only need one cabinet so I don't have to lug a 4X10 around. You can also use the vertical stack with a 2 x 10 which I like. I can get any cabinet to fart out by abusing it. I hear guys with five strings do it all the time. Especially when they are playing through someone elses rig.

I think you see a lot of them on the market used because people like to experiment and people buy them becasue the prices are so resonable. I was convinced that I needed a Avatar 2 X 12 but I was lucky enough to get to borrow a friends. I found out I prefered the 10's. I'm sure if I bought the
2 X 12 mine would have been on the market too so I could buy a 2 X 10.

There are better cabinets on the market. They are called Bergatino, Accugrove, Acme, etc. They cost a lot more. For the investment you will have in a couple of used Avatars you can go wrong.

Big + 1 with all the above.
I also gig with two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets driven with a GK MB2-500 head. I set it up as a vertical 410.
Love this rig!

Since coming to the T.B forum one of the things that has amazed me the most is how often some players trade and switch equipment.
They can have the supposed to be best, top of the line and the highest dollar cabinets and heads along with high dollar boutique instruments, (can't get any better so they say), next week their trading everything for something else!

Thanks guys!! I'm aware of the "boutique" equip. I power my DR Bass 2x12 with a Acoustic Image SA @900w. I just dont have the $$ for bergies etc. . . If i could i'd have a HT322 which gives me all i want but my accountants(wife) in the way of that dream. 10's give me more of a focused bottom end than my 12's so i want to move back and haven't played thru any avatar's and there's nothing more I hate than buying gear that I cant' use then have to dump it for less.

Some manufacturers offer better horns and crossovers than what comes in Avatars, ( the speakers offered by almost all bass cabinet manufacturers are from Eminence...this includes Accugrove, Ampeg, Avatar, Bergantino, Epi, Fender, ect., ect. )
You'll pay 2 times to 2-1/2 times the price of the Avatar to get those improvements in the horn and crossover.
Only your ears can decide if it's worth it.
When I was auditioning 210 cabinets I was amazed just how good the Avatar sounded compaired to a cab that was a little more than double the Avatar's price.

I play rock/hard rock/progressive stuff in a couple bands, I use the 410 neo. Very portable, is tonally solid (maybe not outstanding). WAY beats the Hartke 410XL I used before it.

Actually I think if was able to point the thing closer to my ears while I was playing I'd like it a whole lot more, but such are 410s

B210's show up all the time in For Sale. Also, Avatar always has a "B stock" B210 on EBay. What they sell on EBay is actually brand new; they sell them cheaper there as a "loss leader" to get exposure to the brand. Heard that direct from Dave himself.
